annoying persisting cough...

I have this cough that doesn't seem to want to go away...almost as if I'm trying to cough something up but can't. (And if I do, anything that comes up is clear, so I don't think it's some type of infection.) It shows up all the time, but especially while/after I've done cardio (even up to a few hours later), and it seems to have gotten worse over the past few weeks. Other than the cough, I'm not congested at all. No stuffy nose/sinuses, nothing. I had bronchitis back in February, not sure if it's leftovers of that or what. I'm not having a hard time breathing or anything (even while doing cardio), I've been an athlete my whole life and have very strong lungs, especially from synchronized swimming and playing woodwind instruments. I was given an albuterol inhalor back when I had bronchitis, but that doesn't seem to help.

Anyone had this problem before?? It's really annoying. I'm seeing a doctor a week from Friday, hopefully they can figure something out.

Could be many things. Hopefully, your doc will be thorough, and do a number of tests.

I recently had a very similar event: Non-productive cough lasting 2 weeks. Finally got irritated enough, and went to see a doc I know in the local ER.

He did a pertussis swab, cxr, cbc with electrolyte and white count, and a fairly new test for blood clots.

Turned out to be pertussis. I was surprised, but I work in the health care field, and see some failry sick people every day. Worst part was I had been coughing at work for 2 weeks, and had to notify everyone about it. Bleh.

If at anytime you feel like it's getting worse, head to the ER. I sure felt silly being there, but I'm glad I went. Let us know what happens.

i had a thing simialr to this 2 years ago..took shit loads of different things like steroids for pneumonia (on prescription), antibiotics, inhalers eveything. the fucking doctor kept telling me it was asthma, which i do ocassionaly get so i had 3 diff. types of them at different doses through out the day. got really worried one day cos i threw up at work cos if the coughing and freaked myself out thinking it was SARS. so went to a different doctor really angry and weak by this time and he said to try this nasal spray as it could be down to an allergy. so i used this FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE spray and after a week i was fine. i still use it now and again if i feel a little chesty and it works...i think i triggered if off by using a certain brand of creatine with lots of E numbers in it (which im allergic to) as before i got sick i was running twice a week and training 5 times...and thought the creatine would pump me up! do'h! just glad the doctor had the brainwave to think it could be due to a tightenin in the the throat due to allergies or i;d still be suffering now.
