what would you do here?
call the animal control peeps?
or do nothing?
on my evening stroll last night i came across two young foxes, just chilling by the road in the ditch (turns out they have a nest in the drainage pipe).
tame as a pet, i had to yell at them so they didn't came near me.
cute little bastards, i wish i had my camera...anyway i drive by this morning and they are still just chilling right next to the road...it's a busy road too.
no parents in sight that i've seen...is this normal for foxes?
i'd hate to see them starve or get smashed up

It wouldn't hurt to call animal control, they might be able to move their den to a safer place. One of the courses I golf at a lot always has a family of foxes living next to the road that goes up to the course. It's not super busy, but busy enough. They just put signs up telling people to look out for the family.

^even you cynical fucks would be interested in these little guys
real fuggin cute, i hope they at least don't starve.
i have raccon traps i could use to trap them but then wtf would i do?

jenvin this was directed towards jb and jh

i'm sayin, foxes aren't stupid...chances are they may have had a den there before. and if the babies are still alive, the parents are probably taking care of them....

call animal control, who the fuck knows what those dipwads might do....probably euthanize them or some bullshit.

foxes are wild animals. there are tons near me and animal control won't come out for them- its like coming out to rescue a squirrel.

If you call animal control they will probably destroy them arbitrarily because of rabies fears.

Both parents should still be tending them (unless they got splattered, already), sometimes kits will even stay with their parents overwinter. If you think they ARE in danger I'd call a wildlife rescue/rehab. They're at the age when they're going to start hunting around for mice and bugs.

when do foxes have kiddos?

I was semi serious.

When I was 15 or so, my father had a dog that was full grown - probably 60 lbs or so.

A very young, sickly coyote attacked the dog.... this was in a rural area where my father owns this huge farm like land...

I ran in the house and gotta pistol, I straight popped a cap in his ass... he scurried around a barn, but I could tell I nailed him in the hind leg. I went around the side of the barn and he was crouched hiding under some palet material... I ended him right there.

Poor guy was really bad off to be that despreate to attack a full grown dog...

Point is.. if those foxes are sick, they can attack a domestic dog out of desperation - especially your yorkie...

they don't look sickly at all, pretty healthy as far as i can tell...so maybe their folks are around, i just haven't seen them.

They breed sometime in January/February, kits are born 52 days later so March/April. The mom stays with them constantly the first two weeks, but then the parents start leaving them alone more and more to go hunting.

The kits establish litter hierarchy around 3 weeks old, so say anytime after 4 weeks they might start coming out of the den.

The moms go out and hunt at night usually. However, she may be around. Just observe them for a while. If it looks like they are getting sick, then call.

Oh, no, not until autumn. At this age they'll still have their milk teeth and still be nursing, just like dog puppies.

Here's the best article I could find:

I'd call animal control OR you can contact a wildlife sanctuary nearby. I did this for a baby squirrel that I had for a few weeks.. the mother abondoned him and I kept him for awhile until I finally decided he should be taught how to fend for himself and live in the wild... I took him to an animal sactuary (yeah, one of the scariest times in my life... I got lost in Fort Lauderdale... not fun)...

But I would do something.. that don't belong there.
