Check out this needle i used to inject a microchip into my dog. Granted, it was an SC injection but it I was scared for him. It made a really naty cracking noise when it broke threw the skin. It barely bothered him but god damn!!! The bitch i have got hers done at the vet and they charged me $50 i think. I just ended up ordering the chip when i bought my fina and it only costs $9. I hate the vet almost as much as the dentist.

It's a little microchip that has a unique serial number that is read by a reader at the animal control office. It slid between the inter and outer layers of fur. The number is reg'ed to you and the Vet. Animal Control most of time will call you or the Vet that they have your animal. No batteries or shit so its a one time deal. There are about four different types going now and none of them read each other. Though it's a great thing if you got unruley dogs or women, you can always find them.
