An inoffensive, respectful Question on Atheism

Decem's respecfull post makes me wonder....

If Atheists do not believe in General of a Creator and a GOD,
how was the Vast Eternal Universe created?

Where did the Universe and all it contains come from?

Any the correct answer is NOT that is was always here.
That IMO is not Logical.

thanks for your Respectfull replies as I am curious what you think or if you even wonder as an Atheist

We are living in an information age. What that means is that every 15 years knowledge in general will double, and every 8 years our knowledge of physics will double. So in 16 years we will know 4x as much about physics as we currently do.

So my answer is, sit back and wait for the evidence & info to come in. I have no idea where any of it came from but in 25 years we should know 8x as much about the universe as we currently do and will be able to form better, more thourough and more proveable explanations than god or a big bang.

Just got back from Lunch... Great replies, ... thanks
I think Havoc get kudo's for the most Original response with "A BUNCH OF SHIT BLEW UP"...

When I learn something new about Natural phenomemon or how complex Nature is, I ask myself "how could that just happen by accident?"

I was slightly embarrased to be a Christian a few months ago when My wife and I toured a really good Southern Baptist backed Non denominational Christian School in our area. Everything was going great. The School was nice, the teachers spoke of values and Moral behavior being upheld and taught as well as great academics.

Then we reached the part of the tour when we met some of the teachers.
The Science teacher made a specific point of telling us that he teaches Creationism only and does not mention Evolution in his class. In fact he denounces it as false.

I made a scene by asking "why not believe that God has created the Universe and all creatures and allowed them to change over time?"
It turned into a theologial debate that ended with us realizing our Daughter, who wants to be a Marine Biologist, would be confused at this School no matter how good it was.

I think my Logical statment relates to the fact as you reminded me that "Matter can not be created nor destroyed" as we understand physics.

No one knows for sure who or what or why the Universe was created. It is my "Belief" that some greater power did..

I'm just curious what others think. Obviously the belief that it was simply always there will be popular...

thanks.

All religions and faiths were born out of not knowing and our innate human NEED to know and explain. To know where we came from, how we got here, were we go when we die. Follow his clergy's words and we will be eternally happy they tell us. WHY? When the bible was written some 1400 years ago MAN did not know of space, the stars and the planets. And if God was the all creator you say, why didn't he tell the church the truth and how science in the right hands is a good thing? If you take the time to know the real truth and history of Christianity you will see it is not much more than the best answers educated man had for the life and times they lived in many, many years ago.

Islam and Judism are not much different. Religions created to quite commen people who simply wanted answers before they existed.

If anyone wants some factual biblical insight I suggest The Oxford History of The Biblical World by Michael Coogin.

Just wanted to post my 2 cents worth.

...except with regards to nuclear mechanisms.

that still isn't true. nuclear mechanicsms are methods for unleashing energy. no nuclear mechanism can create or destroy atomic or sub-atomic particles. they just play around with them.

Absolutely. Moreover in terms of changes of physical state, albeit. In this case the definition of matter should probably be changed to energy, as some texts point out. With that change of words it is complete in most any definition, since if matter changed to light energy, some schools of thought see light not as a particle but as a wavelength. For those who see light as a wave rather than a particle, they may use the term energy instead of matter. In the particle theory of light science it further underscores my point.

However, the bottom line remains that the theory of the big bang rests probably at some intermediate point in the time continuum. The big bang theory does not make solid efforts to explain the origins of the matter that comprised the universe before the big bang. For this reason nearly solely, I have not found it conclusive enough to follow.
