AMD vs Intel

I've had those two sites bookmarked for about five or six years. You can't really do better than search there.

Yea can't do better than that. BUT just so you know, the past few months have been stagnant in terms of new products coming out. This next year will be real big, so if you don't have to make a new computer immediately I would wait. The new Intel Conroe Core 2 Duo's are coming out in a month; later on AMD will get back at them in 3Q2006, and in the 1st quarter 2007 both companies will be putting out quad-core chips.

Things often go quiet at this time of year and then pick up again around August or September.

The Conroe chips are rumoured to be available already for tier-one manufacturers but it'll be a while before they're readily available for DIY PCs.

I was thinking of upgrading my old comp to an AMD 64 FX-60....should I wait till Q3 or 2007?

Is there a quick and easy site that explains the different between the Intel 3GHz vs an AMD 3800+?

I would say that if the performance differences between the two really mattered to you then you would already know the answer to this question. I would be more inclined to make a choice among motherboard chipsets then go with whatever processor fits that board. Just pick a processor at your pricepoint and be happy with it.
I used to be a real cpu fanatic but now I hardly care enough to read it anymore.

I'm the same. I used to be on tomshardware every couple of days and was an avid follower of all the roadmaps, lusting after the latest chip as soon as I knew it was imminent.

These days, I can go months without even thinking about x86 chips and I'd just buy for 'bang for the buck' which is usually just a matter of browsing your chosen mail-order vendor's prices. It's definitely worth spending some time to get a feature-rich chipset on the motherboard which is usually another argument in favour of going for 'last year's chip'.

Dual will become quads which will become.....'eights'.

This will happen in a few years with high end video cameras that cost over $15,000.

And the need for still cameras will dissipate since they will have 24-30 frames per second with over 4 mega bytes of date per frame.

Say adios to a lot of event photography. Another profession bites the dust.

While that is running I have a dual AMD athlon MP 1900 with 1.25 gigs of ECC ram. It needs a power supply and a case that will keep it cool. I also have a 256 MB ati radeon card , some nic and sound cards and I will gladly ship it to someone so I do not have to pay to move it

PM me if interested

Thanks for all the help, you guys. I'm gonna hit you all with K. DT, if I could, I'd hit you with more. You're right.

I used to be the guy who modded their PC until it ran perfectly. Amazing how two little kids don't make things like that seem as important anymore.
