Am i super dedicated or just nuts???

Woke up this morning feeling like a bag of shit, tired, dizzy, felt sick every time I ate, but was determined to train today. So i went in at the usual time, managed to squat 405 for 8, hit a pr on leg press, etc, basically pushed my body as far as it would go. Now since I got home I just feel like curling up into a little ball and dying....(but I still havent missed a meal...)
Does that sound like dedication to my art, or have I crossed a line somewhere???

I think if this is going on all the time (which you made it sound like in some of your recent posts) then you gotta change something and are indeed nuts :P. While I'm sure everyone deeply respects your intense devotion to this sport, you should have other priorities like your wife and future kid (congratulations!).

If it's just today, I'd say you're superdedicated. :)

An opinion from someone less dedicated than you though.

Edit: Did the post with your old pics get deleted (the one you addressed to Arnold's Apprentice)? I can't find it. Can you post them up again? And what body fat were you at when you took them?

thats awesome dedication my man,I dont think its a problem if you can still have good relationships with others in life and your not missing out on things you want to do

Fine line

Dedication without question. Just make sure not cross the fine line of over-training when you're sick. I workout through mild colds from time to time, but listen to your body. the eating part is all good, just make sure you're not pushing too hard at the gym when you might be better off taking it easy. For some reason this conversation feels so backwards, little me offering Needsize this type of advice. You got a PR though, good shit. And CONRATULATIONS!...Another future hardcore motherfucker on the way.

The other day, my Mother told me that I was the most dedicated person that she had ever met. No matter injury, sickness, test, date...whatever...I trained.

My hamstring sure is pretty at the moment...lol:) Just one more thing to work around and overcome.

Maybe a bit of both :)

It's great to be dedicated, but not at the expense of your health. It sounds like you possibly might be overtrained, or at the very least your body is trying to tell you something.

exactly my thoughts debaser. NS I know you may not like me much but I gotta help a bro out...the feeling dead in the mornings after a decent amount of hours sleep, dizzy spells the loss of appetite....maybe ease off a while cos i'd give you 10-1 you're overtrained

Dedication my bro - pure dedication....do you know how many times I've said there was no way I could hit the treadmill at 430am esp, after eating all night?? Or how many times I've said there was no way I was getting down the other half of bowl of oats? Or how I wanted to go home after work instead of hitting the gym? It's what sperates us from THEM..........top percentil baby.....keep it going!

Pure dedication man. I commend that. Theres a difference between overtraining (which is way overused), and pushing yourself hard on a leg workout and feeling the effects the next day. Eating while your about to vomit, tthats fucking dedication! I usually have to wait a few hours atleast, or that shits coming back up! Train or FUCKIN die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that once you reach a certain point that you have to push yourself and your body to the limit and beyond to move to the next level and be considered among the "elite." Can it lead to over training? yes, if you allow it. What I see in you and bfold is that drive to be the best.

From zero - excellent quote.......needle - I think Arnold is calling you out and saying your are overtrained.....lol.........

Thanks for the opinions guys. For what its worth I am sure I am not overtrained, I know the feeling and this isnt it. Plus I am still growing and that doesnt happen when you are in an overtrained state. It just feels like a virus, like a mild flu, I've been battling a cold for over a week now, so my immune system is already down.

B, damn that looks nasty, how long till its completely healed?

Lavi, I never took it down, I'll see if I can find out where it went. I was thinking anyway that we should start a thread with before and after pics on it

It is called Will, it take s alot to be at a high competitive level, and more importantly it is hard... This is why people can't do it, it hurts and is a lonely road. But if you live a happy life and have a good family and truly enjoy yourself then I think it is not over the line. But if you ignore the world to train and canot function normally then it is an obsession.

NS not trying to question you but increased suseptability to colds and flu is a classic symptom of overtraining

I agree, but this is also the first time I've been sick in over a year. Right now I am running a fairly heavy cycle, and am following a routine that averages 6-7 sets per bodypart, on top of eating almost 500 grams of protein per day, so overtraining under those circumstances would be very difficult. My wife is a health care aid that works in an old age home, so is constantly bringing home new virus's, so getting sick 1x per year is actually pretty good odds for me.
Also, like I said, no way I could be growing if I was overtraining, or hitting new prs every single week.
Theres no doubt in my mind I'm just sick, hence the question, is training like I did yesterday when sick dedication or just plain nuts.

brother don't worry if your getting gains and still growing i'm sure you don't care right lol. i workout and eat no matter what but to my exercising when i have that migrain that just nasty terrible headache that just gets worse. I workout till i can't bear it anymore get my protein and go sleep for an hour. Umm Here's what i've always done when i got the flew took a hot shower drank some gatorade and got lots of sleep. But your not nuts its just dedication you 'll do whatever it takes. While those people out there are doing nothing when there sick you are out there trainning gaining an edge on them thats the way i see it when i keep at it. Good luck with the cold bro

Depends on who you ask...

The first Dr. I talked to said that I didn't need to do ANYTHING in the gym for 8-12 weeks.

The next two (who are both strongman competitors...and one is a Pro who went to the Worlds this year) told me to push every week as hard as I could and that I should be ok to compete in 8 weeks.

I will do GM's on Sunday and squat next week...I WILL.

I would highly consider seeing an Active Release Therapist B Fold if you have one in your area. I would like to say that this technique has proven so effective on me that it has actually driven me to learn it and make a career with it. It's nearly miracle-working.

If you do see one, preferably see one that is level 3 or higher. This means that they have taken the biomechanics seminars and are more knowledgeable all-around. Level 4 means they are an instructor.

B, glad to hear you'll be back in that much time, I always figured it would be longer for something like that, but athletes do heal much faster too

No not a chiropractor, though many A.R.T. practitioners are chiros.

Closest one is 2 hours away from me. I tried to run today and I could seriously pass for a Special Olympics Athlete (not a cut at all, for anyone who knows me). I am getting better every day I just have VERY limited use of my left leg.

Tonight I am going to TRY and do some more LIGHT and SHALLOW and HIGH-REP rounded back GM's, shallow rack pulls, and hip work...whatever I can do. I may do some step-ups to work on increasing my coordination in that leg. I feel that all of it is lost and I have very little control of it at the moment.

All right well when I become certified (within about a year probably?) I'll go down there to train with you and try and fix any nagging injuries you might have. I'll also be trained in neuromuscular massage (but don't get any ideas big guy :) )

Same goes for needsize or any good bro on here...when I get my certs I'll help you guys out, whether if I'm in the area to train or you guys ever get out to KC...

Needsize didn't you say you sciatica or bursitis earlier? A.R.T. is very effective in resolving these problems.

That would be cool, but I'm way up here in canada so that would be quite a trip. I actually had both sciatica and bursitis, the sciatica went away on its own after a year, not sure how though, and the busitis I have almost gotten rid of by taking anti-inflamatories (ibuprofen) at bedtime. It was pretty harsh trying to squat with both of them though

Thanks AA, that was actually a pretty good link
