am I goin to jail?

3 class A misdeamnor charges. 1 for having a small knife in my pocket. the other 2 for obstruction of a police officer (1 for grabbing and ID from his hand, the other from walking away)

what do you think? i cant afford a great lawyer...but im hoping i will get off with just some fines. my record is clean
 
They slap you with multiple charges. You plead guilty to one. THat's the system at work.

You won't go to jail. Maybe get a little probation or comm service. I suggest that you at least consult with an attorney though.

i cant afford it bro...im in school right now. the laywer im getting is through the schools legal services
 
probably not. you'll probably have to plea bargain down after the prosecutor fabricates a bunch of crimes against you.

I see community service, probation and fines in your future.
 
Fines vary, as do punishments.

Ask your lawyer, whether or not he is "not that good". Just becuse he's not defending OJ or Jacko doesn't mean he isn't good enough to help you.
 
probation isn't that bad.

you just can't get trouble while your on it. if you do, your fucked.

all I have to do is call once a month for a year. not that big of a deal.

thats it? i thought it varied by state and county. maybe im wrong but i thought in some places you have to pay one hours wages a day to your probation office for the duration. So if you make $14/hr, you have to pay $14/day in fines for your probation .

plus the mandatory drug testing, and cant cops go through your house whenever they want?

maybe im thinking of parole with the last 2 things.

I cant help becauser I am in the UK........but give us the full story anyway.
 
Have your lawyer check to see if they have some sort of pretrial intervention program in your area. You pay a fine, do some community service, and if you stay out of trouble for a certain time your record is wiped clean. :)

What do I think?

You should be incarcerated for the fact that keeping you in jail would mean one less stupid person in the free world.
 
youll only be found guilty if you ever post it on the internet. then youll probably only get 8 hard years.
 
Sounds like probation...some fines....community service....if this is the only thing on your record.

how much are the typical fines for something like this? no way in hell my parents will pay for this...and i got enough to worry about with tuition

I was thinking the same.........

Cops are there for a reason........if you dont respect their authority and to top that are carrying a weapon you deserve to be in trouble.

Love that 'no way my parents would pay for this' line.
 
These are POP charges.

POP = Pissing Off the Police

They will spank your ass mightily with community service hours, but you probably won't do any jail time. The jails are heavily overcrowded and they don't need more punks taking up cells.

If you behave very humbly and ask the public defender to plea bargain you - you will get your best offer.

If you act like an a-hole they will slam you harder.

It's a simple system designed to discourage attitude.

He said that he snatched the card back and walked away. He didnt panic, he acted like he thought he was untouchable. Did you actually read the first post?

Hey Chewy,

I quoted ti for you so yu can see what he said happened. By his own admission he grabbed the ID and WALKED away. That is not panicking it is trying to act like a badass and giving the cop zero respect.
 
and I'll try to remember that a 'pocket knife' isn't a weapon next time some shite at school waves one in my direction and then tries to walk off.........

i'm not gonna get into this but......a pocket knife can be a weapon, it all depends on the INTENT. For myself, a pocket knife is a conveniant tool that i use almost on a daily basis.

consider your use of the word "weapon" wtf are you talking about some "shite" waving one in your direction?! of course he is using as it weapon then, wtf is your point? I can wave my fist in your face and that is a weapon....


as for grabbing the ID and walking away......its classic fight or flight......take the ID and take off....not the wisest choice but do you honestly think that he was thinking clearly at this point?
 
It is not classic fight or flight because he is not taking flight. Flight means getting out of there as fast as possible. Once again, HE WAS WALKING. Also, in a classic fight or flight scenario you would not stick around to grab an ID. More like he gave the cop some attitude and the cop went to town and did him for carrying a knife too....just for good measure. I'm sure the cop couldnt have done that if it wasnt against the law right? I wonder why that would be? The cop was making a point.

You need to swot up on your Biology. In a fight or flight situation flight means getting out of there as fast as possible. The point is that it is used in extreme situations where an extreme answer is required. Hence the fight or getting the hell outta there.

No the meaning of fight in the term 'fight or flight' is very simple. It is an emergency situation that requires that the organism try to get away at top speed. No walking, jogging, hopping.......nothing but all out speed.

6'2" 222lb.

Been upto 484lb bench. Now around 396 cos I was stupid and picked upa tear. Close to 600lb dead right now.
