i was talking to a guy last week and he was telling me about this study that showed ALA can help increase uptake of carbs into the muscles and slowing the storage of body fat... what is your take on this? or do you have any info that i could read? i know all about it's insulin like effects, which is the direct cause of the above.. but i'd like to read a study or two.

Insulin is the most anabolic hormone in you body (and you thought steroids were). Therefore, if you use ALA to increase insulin sensitivity, then carbs will be pushed into your muscle cells easier.

Also, there was a study that said that s-ala increases insulin. Just remember, insulin doesnt give a shit where the sugar goes (adipose tissue or muscles) it just wants it to go somewhere. So, eat only carbs that are high on the glycemic index right after a workout.

Don't forget that ALA doesn't shuttle all of the carbs into the muscle, it just noticeably increases the percentage of carbs that go to muscle rather than fat. Sorry if that's too elementary, but some people tend to forget that and then wonder why they're getting fat when they binge and "purge" with ALA.

It also seems that ALA works independantly of insulin via the GLUT-4 receptors. I myself have had modest results with 1gram of ALA daily. I will stop after I finish my bottle as I do not feel it is cost effective. However I have yet to try R-ALA.
