when did you last switch antihistamine? as im sure youre aware, they lose effectiveness over time and you have to switch to one of the other antihistamines for a few weeks/months before cycling back to the one youre on now

anyway claratine is a brand name, so youre not being terribly helpful. if i were you id go into your pharmacy and see what they have. id go for some sort of nasal spray with a sympathomimmetic in it (such as psuedoephedrine) to dry up your nose and an antihistaminic eyedrop to take away the itch

you also cant go too wrong buying some sort of saline (salty water) spray to flush out your eyes/nose of any collected allergic particles. saline is very cheap (a dollar or two) and can be very effective (im a fan of simple cheap solutions. it keeps my patients trusting me, so taht i can rip them off REALLY badly when the time is right...like right before i go on vacation and need cash  )

thanks hun! I have only been on Claritin for about 2 weeks. My allergies get really bad every couple years. It must be something in the air. I am friggin miserable. I took Benadryl last night and it knocked me out. lol I was a walking zombie!

I know the feeling hun. Miserable is an understatement. God forbid I get hot, then I feel worse than ever.

yeah, i have allergies/asthma. It sucks. I find allegra works best for me, but that is no OTC

Do you care if it's non-drowsy or not?? BTW most non-drowsies omit the antihistamine from the formula. Thus, you won't get relief from sneezing and itchy eyes.

I have to take non-drowsy formulas because if not, I will be sleeping at my desk. I took a Benadryl last night and it put me on my ass! I was in bed and asleep for 9 pm and I am still very drowsy today.

Me too. But, as indicated, non-drowsy formula's don't do jack for the most annoying symptoms due to the lack of antihistamine. . .it's kind of a catch-22. Take the regular (i.e., drowsy) formula and chase it with a Ripped Fuel or something. . .it works. . .trust me. :)

I will try that tomorrow. I am soo tired of feeling like this. All I want to do is crawl in bed and sleep! That is soooooo not me. I am usually on the go for hours upon hours. I never stop. Its taking everything out of me just to keep my eyes open now.

non drowsy formulations usually do have an anti histamine in them - but a less sedating, less effective one

this is why i stress the need for local application via a nasal spray or eye drop - you get a HUGE amount of drug where you need it most. tablets are nice but limited in how much drug you can get to the site of action

why dont you people go to the doctor? allergies made me miserable for years before I actually wisened up and sought treatment from my allergy and asthma doctor. Ive basically been symtom free ever since. also, its nice knowing what it is youre allergic to so as to avoid the allergen lol makes sense right>?

I'm allergic to everything. It is hard to avoid. Plus, I have 2 st bernards, a yorkie, and 2 cats. Can you say pet dander? lol.

Actually benadryl always worked the best for me, but I pass out. =-(

Yeah. Now that you mention it, whenever I have problems, I pretty much rely on Flonase (or that other one. . .can't remember name right off hand) and Visine A.

I got allergy shots for years, though. That probably helped more than anything.

Well then youre going to continue being miserable.

I have been to the doctor numerous times for my allergies...always the same crap...here take this...blah blah blah

I am pretty sure it is pollen and other crap flying around outside that triggers my allergies. How can I avoid this? I can't. So I guess I am stuck with this crap. lol

honestly, seasonal allergies are treatable. IMO prescription drugs work better than OTC mostly because often times, OTC brands include lots of medicines that you might not need. there are lots of different prescription drugs for seasonal allergies - LOTS. if something that is prescribed doesnt work, tell your doctor, and they can try another. personally, id prefer to be treated by a doctor who specializes in allergies and asthma to ensure proper treatment.

Damn I just hate spending hard earned money on something that may not work along with the visit. lol I may put a call in and see if they can just call me in something rather than making an appointment.
