All about Acne and Accutane - From someone that has been there and done it.

Great post!

Thanks for the heads up.

I was seriously considering it, but after having read that I don't think my case is serious enough for Accutane.

To answer a question that I have seen in several PMs....

I did my cycles of Accutane a few years ago - maybe like 5. I have had some mild flare-ups at times, but nothing like it was before.

My theory is a bit different

Well first of all, I know my doc pretty well and we talk about everything. But, he has yet to say a thing about my Cholesterol?? I know that it is 137 total which is not bad at all. But, liver values are something that is watched like crazy. ALT and AST are supposed to stay between 0-40. While using Accutane the traditional way with AAS, my values have reached the upper limits of 320 on both scales, esp. if I use any Tylenol.

I hate acne!! It will make a person who is in great shape look like shit as soon as it is noticed. So, I developed my own little system for taking Accutane. Especially since everyone that uses it for 3-6 months always finds that it comes back within a month or so after they quit, even when they are not still on AAS.

Some people might think this is too hardcore, but it works and it is safe as long as your blood tests are still being performed. It is very simple, I take 1-40mg gelcap of accutane every 3-4 days. This will keep you from looking like a snake when it sheds its skin and it will be easier on your liver and body as a whole, and you don't have oil dripping off of your skin, which means NO ACNE!!!!!!!! I normally do this for the length of time I am on, plus 3 weeks. Doing it this way, after 3-4 months of cycling I still have a bit of Accutane left. And your doc will still continue to prescribe it for 6 months because your blood tests are within check!!!!!

Don't knock it till you try it. It works great.

Tripp OUT.....................

what about dry skin a while after its over? If oil glands are permanently dried up, eventually your skin may wrinkle more easily. any experiences?

This CAN happen. Although, think of it this way ..... even if it does ......... the small amount of work, maintenance, moisturizing, whatever, that may be necessary to habdle dry skin ..... is much easier to deal with than all of the things most guys do as an anti-acne regimen ...... and at least you WON'T have Acne!

One of my posts from a while back, which I am bumping because I continue to see guys ask about this, and email me asking for this post.

If you want to thank me, just send Karma.

Be well.

Some of my experiences:

Had mild acne (facial) and pretty bad backne, did 20mg/ed (@ ca 200lbs), worst side was lips (use AQUAPHOR ALL DAY and no more problems), when used in conjunction with 5g of B5 other side was very dry nose, they have gel for that too.

Discontinued after ca. 5 weeks because my backne was, well, gone.

DaMan, you had sides even with 20mg? I am interested in hearing from others who have used low dose treatment (20-40mg ED). I don't think my acne warrants full out treatment with 1mg/kg (in my case, that would be 120mg), but I have heard good things about low dose treatment in the past.
