ALA and Kestosis???????

Is ALA only beneficial to get and stay in ketosis, or would it help you lose weight while not being on a keto diet. Obviously not as fast, but damn I hate being in ketosis.

It will help whether you are in ketosis or not. Basically, a higher percentage of glucose ends up as muscle glycogen instead of liver glycogen. Every reduction of liver glucose causes a similar reduction in bodyfat, since the body needs to make up for less blood sugar in some way (ketosis or not).

I'm not even sure what the advantage of ketosis is.
 
just got my ALA today and took 1 g split up at mealtimes... and i'm already in ketosis (and i ate lasagna for dinner) where as i hadn't got into ketosis while eating super low carbs... i'm convinced that ALA is the shit for keto diets...
 
Question...

How much ALA should I take once ketosis has been established? (i.e. during low carb days...AND...already being in ketosis).

Well, for one thing, your body will be burning FAT. And for the
other....naa, the body burning fat is good enough for me:D

You took 1 gram split up at mealtimes??..and you managed to
get in ketosis??..even after lasagna?? Umm, it's not that I don't
believe you...but...well...I don't believe you. How were you so
sure you were in ketosis?

Lasagna with say 500mg ALA will not kick me out of Ketosis. I had a celebration dinner a few weeks ago and I had 2 baked potatoes/4 pieces of Texas toast and a big ass steak all after taking 500mg of ALA. Oh yah, after that we went out and I got a double Latte. That's another 8 ouce glass of whole milk.

I NEVER left Keotsis after that. Didn't workout that day and checked my keostix every 2-3 hours for the next 24 hours and I was never out.
 
I took 500 mg of ALA last night for the first time. Today I have ingested 1.5 g spread out over 4 doses and I'd swear, by the way I feel, that I'm in ketosis. This wasn't my intent and I don't have any Ketostix to test myself but I'm definitely lethargic, sleepy and brain dead today.

I'm going to keep my carbs moderate and continue with the ALA for the next couple of weeks. We'll see what happens.

know how I know this?? Because I too have been eating clean
most of the time. This past weekend, I had communion parties
and shit like that. So, I carbed up...BIG TIME! I just upped ALA
to 1500 per meal. (That's right, 1500!) Checked stix and HEAVY
ketosis. WOW! Great stuff right??..WRONG! After consuming the
large amount of carbs that you did, you could have checked the
stix all night long and it would "show" ketosis, but in reality,
you were just excreating excess ketones. There is (from what I
understand) a 9 to 12 hours window there that will make you
"think" your in ketosis. And I'm not talking about pink, I'm talking
about 'purple' here. I am 95% sure that upon rising the next
morning, if you would have checked your lil pee stick, you would
have show a BIG...FAT...NEGATIVE! There is NO way lil ol 500mg
of ALA is going to keep ANYBODY in consuming that amount
of carbs. I talk from expierience.

We all know that peoples bodies all react different to everyting.

I knew about the 9-12 hours of "thinking" you are Ketosis and I did not stop ckecking for 1 full day and I never left. I usually check about once a day, but after meals with carbs I check every 2-3 hours to see how long it takes to get out.

I went 2 weeks straight without leaving Ketosis. Checking once a day before bed and every 2-3 hours after I eat a carb meal. The meal I stated earlier NEVER kicked me out of Ketosis.

Everybody's body is different. Don't say because "you talk from experience", because you don't have any experience of my body.

If I do leave Ketosis it takes me less than 24 hours to get back in if I am eating right and taking as little as 300mg of ala each meal after leaving.
 
Well, I just checked and I did my carb up this weekend and I am in Ketosis right now. I did check about 4 hours ago and I was not.

Maybe the ALA is giving me false results or somthing because I really didn't think I would get back in this soon. This was my first REAL carb up weekend....over 1000g over the last 2 days....so I did not expect to be in Keto this afternoon already. I never get dark purple readings, always get traces, but it is always the same no matter how long I have not eaten any carbs. I do drink A LOT of water though, so that is probably why I do not get the DARK purple reading. I eat around 160p/<20c/130f. It is a CKD diet that I have changed to the last couple of weeks. I was doing a regular Atkins type diet with just a cheat meal once a week.
