ALA and False Keto Reading?

I have been running CKD with good results for 5 weeks now and, I have been trying to get back into ketosis quicker after a carb up so I started taking 500mg ALA with every carb meal on my carb up and the strange thing is that when I piss on my keto strip it says I am still in ketosis even after eating dinner with rice and all and a bowl of non fat ice cream, and that night the reading will say im in ketosis, I did not think that would be possible. I ended up staying in ketosis through out my entire carb up and I was wondering if the ALA could be giving me false positive for Ketosis.

My family and I did the same thing over Thanksgiving and we all stayed in Ketosis too. We ate pie, mashed potatoes...etc....sometimes we took a 500 mg or sometimes 1 gram.

We couldn't believe it either! We made my poor bro-in-law...who wasn't doing the ketosis thing pee on a strip just to make sure the strips weren't bad. His always turned out negative so we knew the strips must be OK.

I'm interested in knowing the answer to this as well! If the results aren't false positive than ALA really rocks!!:)

Yeah depending on the amount of carbs I will take 500mg -1G
But I was trippin when I d eat ice cream and shit and that night still be in ketosis I figured it must be a mistake.

THE BIG MISCONCEPTION IS THAT ALA KEEPS YOU IN KETOSIS; WHILE THAT MAY BE TRUE: ALA (R-ALA...) WILL LOWER YOUR BLOOD SUGAR TO SUCH A LOW LEVEL (40-50 DL), AT TIMES, YOU WILL SHOW KETONES IN THE URINE; HOWEVER, IF YOU DON'T DEPLETE MUSCLE AND LIVER GLYCOGEN, FOR GLUCAGON TO BE RELEASED THEN YOU CAN KISS YOUR FAT-LOSS GOOD-BYE.

I am a bit confused Mr X can you please explain a bit clearer in laymans terms SORRY.

If you are showing Ketones in the urine, it does not mean your are in a fat-burning metabolism. It only means that your blood sugar is low enough for you to be in a Ketonic state; if you were at this point w/o any muscle or liver glycogen (liver more concrete), then you would experience the release of the glucagon hormone which would break down the store fats and let them be used for energey.

In your case, you are eating carbs, so the liver is full; thus, you're not in a true fat-burning state.
