WELL YOU KNOW HOW SOME AIRLINES HAVE AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CHANNEL ON THE HEADPHONES SO YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE TRAFFIC? HOLY HELL, I HAVE A NEWFOUND RESPECT FOR ATC'S, GEEZUS H. CHRIST. THE WOMAN AT O'HARE DEPARTURE WAS GOING INSANE, SHE WOULD CALL A FLIGHT ABOUT EVERY TWO SECONDS WITH INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS.

WHERE CAN I FIND SOME INFO ON THE JOB ATC'S DO AND WHAT TOOLS THEY USE?

Have you ever seen the movie "Pushing Tin"? I'm not sure how close to real-life it was as I really don't have that much interest in Air Traffic Controllers. In fact, I think I'd rather not know what they've got going on. But you might like this movie.

THANKS PERHAPS I WILL WATCH IT.

THE RADIO TRAFFIC IS REALLY COOL. LISTEN TO IT IF YOU FLY UNITED. FIRST, I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE PILOT DID MOST OF THE STUFF AND THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS JUST GAVE THE PILOT THE BIG PICTURE. NOT SO, THEY GUIDE EVERY SINGLE STEP OF THE PLANE'S MOVEMENT. THEY TELL THE PILOT WHEN TO TURN, WHAT SPEED TO GO AT, WHAT ELEVATION, ETC. AND IT IS PRETTY COOL TO HEAR THAT ON THE RADIO AND THEN SEE THE TURN A FEW SECONDS LATER.

I STILL CAN'T GET OVER HOW FAST THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER AT O'HARE WAS GIVING ORDERS. IT WAS SERIOUSLY A NONSTOP COMMUNICATION, SHE WOULD GIVE AN ORDER, THE PILOT WOULD ECHO IT, SHE WOULD GIVE ANOTHER ONE TO A DIFFERENT PILOT, ETC...ALL WITHOUT A STOP.

PRETTY AMAZING.

an ATC came into my old job about a month ago. my coworker talked to him and asked him about the job. First, he told my coworker that they work for about 1hr and then have something like an hour and half break due to the stress you have mentioned. I guess they can make a grip of cash as well. he told my buddy that they START at almost 6 figures. I thought that was a bit lofty but if its as stressful as everyone says, maybe its true.

INTERESTING INFORMATION...

ANYONE HAVE ANY MORE?

I REALLY WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS JOB KNOW, SOUNDS VERY INTERESTING.

The east coast (NY, Boston, etc.) is some of the busiest radio traffic I've ever heard for ARTCC. Approach Control, Tower and Ground Frequencies at all the major airports get pretty fricken crazy at push times.

There used to be some links where you could listen to some Center comms..I'll see if I can find it.
