The story lines are not real. But the pounding their bodies take IS REAL !!!
I used to watch it religiously as a kid, but lost interest as I got older. Especially when Sting went on 60 Minutes and answered the question, "Is wrestling fake?" and he said, "Yes". This was way back in the 80's. The show then went on to show clips of screw-ups in the ring and how they put these into their storylines (i.e. Sting was supposed to climb up a cage, but accidentally rammed his knee into a bar and that put him out for some time. The storyline said he was hurt by another wrestler, or something like that).
Now, I don't care if some adults like watching it. But its when they talk about it like the storylines are actually REAL is when I have to roll my eyes and shake my head in disgust.
Yes, they actually do beat on each other in the ring, but in a controlled fashion. It's not like they are in the dressing room 5 minutes before a match, and they are getting all fired up, shouting, "I'm going to kick his ass!!" (unless there is a camera around). They go in already knowing who is going to win, and they beat on each other, and do some other judo and gymnastic type stunts until they get the signal to end it.
I had a friend who, at about 25, still watched it and talked about it like it was real. I said, "cmon, its all staged!"
He got all quiet for a moment, then said, "Well... some of its real."
He was a dumbass.
