Cats are cool. They don't require as much effort to care for as a dog. You just keep their litter box clean and keep the cat food coming and they kind of take care of themselves (until they get sick).

I'm not allowed to have any critters in my apartment.

satire aside
anyone with any history here knows I adore my two cats
"maximus" my white male has the disposition of a friendly sloppy dog
given to me when I was 38 by my 19 year old nymph(true story)
my female "gretchen" is typical of most cats
her affection is decimated on her terms
sometimes she leaps into my computer lap
mostly though she's aloff

My cat is just a happy fat cat. He's an only kitty and doesn't seem to play well w/ others cuz he's never been around them. He's led a pretty sheltered life because outdoor kitties in S. Florida don't last too long w/o their claws. So he's just comfortably happy & sedentary at the house. I feel bad when I leave him behind when I go on vacation -- but he also doesn't travel well and would mostly be freaked out. But he's really been a joy to have these past 13 yrs. He really has one of the best dispositions of a cat that I've ever experienced.

I have an unfortunately large amount of cats, 7 now. It was only supposed to be 6 but the last one was a total starving feral we trapped fair and square. She's only just starting to tolerate being held after living with us for 2 months. She's the 2nd adult feral I've brought in but when the first one moved in she was like, "yeah, this is good, food, warmth, you clean the poop, no more me killing dinner." This one can't hasn't got past, "please don't hurt me."

Kittens are precious. Bless your heart MightyMouse, a lot of people treat cats like they're disposable.

MM,

That is great that you opened up your home to the poor little cats. I agree, there are way to many people who think a pet is a toy and once they are bored, move on. I believe the way you treat animals is the way you treat people.

:)

what was particualrily endearing was maximus's behavior when a roommate of mine brought home a kitten to give to his girlfriend. Maximus would lick and groom that little kitten as if it was his obligation.

Yay, for happy fat cats :)

When do they arrive? Why cats?

They are here now, hiding under my sunroom table - I think they are afraid of me...poor little kitty's! I like cats, dogs, fish, etc...A frog (peeper) came in with a plant before last winter and lived till the spring in my sunroom...God rest his little soul.

My dog arrives tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing him. I haven't had a pet in awhile.

That is awesome, what is his name and how old is he...prepare yourself for lots of cleaning! lol...I took care of a dog recently, climbed up on the table and took a fresh batch of pastries and found one in each room...Yuk.

He's arriving with no name. So, I'm going to name him Samson. He's 4; rottie mix. Oh, I know about the cleaning. I've had dogs most of my life. For the past 4 years, things have been hectic, so I didn't have one. Now, I'm settling down, so I can take care of one.

I'm making my apartment "doggie" proof now.

Best of luck to you and can't wait to see some pics!

I got an awesome bengalcat. She even plays fetch better than any dog. She like to fetch crumbled up paper balls swat them around on the slick kitchen floor for a second then she'll drop the paper off right at your feet and wait for you to throw it again.

I would of gotten one of those if the shelter had one, cool looking.

And NYC Gal, stop spoiling him!

I bought him one toy. And some pig ears and rawhides. That's it.

Back when I was a horrid smoker, I used to give the cat the cellophane wrappers to play with. They would have more fun with a balled up cigarette package than a bought toy.

Are they littermates? From the picture they appear to like each other, which is unusual for cats.

my female goes bonkers over the plastic ring that remains when you screw off the milk cap
I'd stretch it out and fit her neck with it sometimes
war!

lol, my cat loves that one too, and the twist tie that goes on the bread

A ball of aluminum foil is always popular ... but the BEST, BEST, BEST, invest in a laser pointer!!! Just don't shine it in kitties eyes ... you can get them climbing the walls, they love it!

Don't forget to get a good scratching post or cardboard pad or something. Teach em the right thing to use young and they never get into bad habits. A company called Top Cat makes a post that 5 out of my 7 love (the others use the cardboard), not cheap, but it's basically lifetime. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay.

Awwwww MM They are beautiful!!

So happy to hear that you adopted them!!

Well, they have a ton of food waiting for them. The SPCA booklet that comes with them suggests that they typically do this for a couple of days until they feel safe. They have a huge space to roam!

hey mouse just give them there space for a bit, they will be a bit freaked out and may not eat for a couple of days, but they'll be ok once they realize your not going to hurt them, and they will get hungry

MM, I have a 20lb bag of food arriving and I'm interviewing sitters for him this weekend . He's going to be soooo spoiled.

Sitters! Wow, now your doggy is going to be a lucky one.

Only for when I travel. That is it. He will be fine home alone until I come home from work.

I can't WAIT to take him to the doggie park on the weekends and play catch with him in the tennis courts of my apt. complex.

Do you have any other pets?
