adding a 2nd hard drive... do i need to put an OS on it???

if i want to add a 2nd hard drive or if i want to use my old one can i just plug it in to the new cpu? what if it's windows 98? and i'm using xp now?

i keep thinking that since my c drive has the OS on it, then whatever other hard drive i plug in will work like a storage only unit... am i wrong?

no your right, if it has 98 installed on it delete it. its not complicated

There's no need to be in a hurry to reformat it since there's almost always some old file that you'll have forgotten to transfer and you'll lose it if you just reformat. You can connect it up in the new machine and access it just fine and then you can always reformat it later when you are absolutely sure that you have no use for the information currently on it.

no you do not. Do into administrative tool
1. partition the disk
2. format
3. assign it a drive letter

ok, as long as i dont need to reformat before installing thats cool... there are a few files i want to get off of it and i'd rather hook it up into the new cpu then keep pulling shit off of it and transferring... especially considering i took the bitch all apart and have stripped a lot of things off of it...

ok, when i plug the 2nd hard drive in and power it up my computer just doesnt work... i'm doing something wrong here....


i plug it in to the hard drive wire thats powering the other hard drive, and plug into the power source... so i have 2 cables connected to the new hard drive... the power and the one that goes to the mother board (this cable is shared with my current HD as well)...

but it stops working until i unplug it....
