Addicted to Afrin, what to do?

This is getting *&(@#$&@#^% annoying. Every time I get a cold, I get addicted to Afrin. Yeah, I use it more than 3-4 days in a row, but what else am I supposed to do?

Here's what I've come up with to stop the insanity:

- Dilute Afrin with Salin 50/50.

- Use Afrin only at night and stick to Sudafed as much as possible during the day (Sudafed doesn't do much for me).

- Only spray one nostril at a time.

HELP. What else can I do to get off this crap?

Get some saline spray and suck it up for a few days.
You'll be stopped up, but hang in there. It will clear up.
And never buy Afrin again.

Afrin is addicting as fuck!

After a week of it though the tissue in my nose gets fucked and I have to quit using and go through withdrawals for a few days lol.

Who would have thought being able to breath would be addicting?!?

I have to get up at least once a night to "up the afrin". And that's even though I'm using the 12 hour afrin!

Ok fellas, I'm here to help. In the year of 2002 I used Afrin everyday!. For 2003 I made a resloution never to use it again. If you ask any doctor they'll tell you that you becom very dependant on it. So the only way to quit is to go cold turkey.

I know how hard it is. I couldn't sleep if I didn't have my Afrin. It was horrible. Still I just ignored it and did what I could, even if my nose was completely closed. In less than a month I was breathing fine, or atleast as fine as I could possibly breath.

I've never really been able to breath through both nostrils at the same time, it's usually either one or the other. But I've never gone back to afrin. As long as I have one nostril, I'm doing fine.

Literally in an instand your nose opens up. If you've got really bad conjestion you can actually "hear" the nostrils "crack" open with a POP!

And depending on how addicted you are it can last for up to 10 or 12 hours. If you use it all the time it lasts less.

It all depends on how dependant you are on it. I used it all the time so it took so long. If you're just a casual user I'm sure it'll maybe be a week or two.

this is a serious problem for me too.....i don't use afrin anymore though, because they put menthol in it, and that shit burns. i usually just get some generic shit, that doesn't have menthol in it.

i am a nasal spray and sudaphed addict....

Oh GOD! Don't take it. Yes it's over the counter. If you don't have any problems, don't take it! Use those Breath Right strips!

try switching to a steroidal swelling reducer. I take Nasonex, there's another one out there that is good, too.

Not as drastic when you don't take it. But if I miss it two days my mouth is all dry when I wake up from breathing thru my mouth.

I'm like that during the allergy seasons when the pollen is in the air(Spring & Fall). I'm good now though- all I do now I clear with a Puffs and go to bed.

I live on dristan and sudafed in the allergy season, wich fortunetly only lasts for about 5 weeks up here.

Theres actually some new medication (in pill form) out now for people who have chronic congestion. It's expensive as hell, but I used it for about a month last year and it workd amazingly well. I forget the name, but you could check w/ your doc.

i used sinex like that for 2-3yrs and finally just quit cold turkey,i wont even use it now when i'm sick...the doc can give you a couple of diff steroidal sprays by prescription that do help i'm told....also having my nose and sinuses so continuosly dried out led to me catching the flu and several sinus infectios/yr for 3 str8 yrs. Now sudafed and saline spray with a breathe right strip does it.

My roomate is addicted to it. We always joke with him about it, we say its his crack. He doesn't smoke or drink or do any drugs for that matter, but he will sure as hell snort some Afrain up his nose!!!
