Guys, Can you give me your experiences on accutane please, I have severe acne and I am being put on 120mg of accutane daily from tmrw, I am also being monitored every fortnight with blood and liver tests, can you tell me how quick it started clearing the acne for you and what the sides were like etc. Thanks guys.

I will say its powerful shit! and that it does work but it kicks in at different times for each individual. One of the biggest sides is that it dries the hell outta everything inwhich it is suppose to do but dry lips is the biggest side to me... gotta keep those lips ointmented...

thats a big dosage he has you on there, are you sure your under a physicians care and not just gobbling up pills yourself? cause 120 a day is fucked up.

Yes mate its ok, the normal dose is 0.5mg per kg of body weight, but as I have very severe acne they are putting me on at 1mg per kg of body weight, and I am 120kg's.

chap stick wont work, you will get severly dried up lips. your gonna need some old fashioned vazel-lean, maybe some carmex. i used the vaseline, carmex, and this ointment called aquaphor.

I started seeing solid results in about 4-5 weeks, before which I did get a little worse.

As for the dry lips check out www.bagbalm.com. I know how this sounds, but this shit rocks! Bag Balm is used for cow's utters, horses and such, but works wonders on dry skin. Seriously this bag balm works...

you'll see results prob in like a month, the first thing to clear up was chest and back on me. Face last.......use lots of oilfree lotion, my lips got chapped as hell, i just rubbed all the dead skin off with my fingers in a hot shower. Then put blistex on right away, the blue medicated container. You'll be very happy after you done, u might get very depressed on it though, one of the side effects which i got, but i rode it through and glad i did. It was very well worth it.

I am on my 6th day now at 40mgs. There has been a slight increase in spots but this is normal for many. For some it gets worse and others it improves almost immediately. It is said that some can experience a worseness in up to a month. My lips are so dry to the extent that if Im using chap stick every 30 minutes and its still very dry. The skin on my face has started to get dry. I woke up this morning and had a nose bleed and I came home and had another one.

I noticed it after 2 weeks or so.. (this was like 3-4 years ago when i was 15) At that young of age I didnt care what I did to get rid of my acne.. if I had the choice today I wouldn't take it. I HATE the side effects, after I thought it was getting better my face just turned sick.

I hated the dry lips.. GOD it was the worst, and the dry skin was shitty to.

I still get the odd zit.. sometime a little more then usual but hey that's cuz of umm... the gear

wassup bro.. im on 120mgs of accutane right now also.. i have been on 9 days so far and i haven't noticed any improvement its gotten worse actually but thats what its suppose to do. my nose bleeds ALOT, way too much. I can't even scratch my nose w/o it bleeding, its very dry inside.. and i mean VERY dry, quite uncomfortable. My lips are very dry too.. THe first few days I felt sick all the time but that has passed.. hopefully it will start clearing soon....................

Now I just need a couple of weeks at 40mg/day if gear causes some outbreak on my back and chest...

Thought I better dig up my post and update you guys, I am now on day 18, My skin has dried out totally, my lips need vaseline every 30 mins and I am having nose bleeds at least twice a day, people say that I should drink lots of water, but the urge isnt there, I can barely force it down, the acne has slowed a little but, still say 3 or 4 new spots every day, just have to keep hoping for an improvement soon.. bbigman2000

The REAL results from Accutane are NOT the fact that it clears uop the acne you have NOW. Thats happens in a few weeks - and for many it gets temporarily worse before it gets better.

The REAL benefit is the long-term (years and years, if not for a lifetime) effect that you get from Accutane - but you MUST STAY ON ACCUTANE FOR LIKE 4-6 MONTHS STRAIGHT for that to happen.

Thes guys who take it for like 4 weeks, 2 months, or whatever, are wasting their time.

Accutane is not like freegin Clearasil.

Ryker, thanks, I read your whole post, and very informative it was to, part of my problem is that I left the acne to get so severe that I now cant train I am in constant agony, have been off work and the gym for 4 weeks now, I have major MAJOR scars and scabs on my chest, some are 2" sround lesions, they scab over and bleed al the time, the healing process, is taking a lifetime. Any ideas guys.

Water. Lots.

CLEAN but dont SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB. Guys tend to think "more is better" and scrub TOO hard - thats is NOT good.

Also, take some anti-inflammatory drugs, like Advil. That will keep the inflammation down.

You can use ice on an very inflammed legions.

Also, a dermatologuist can provide temprary relief with localized injections which will lower the inflammation (I THINK they inject cortisone, or something like it, right into the lesions).

If you have any real lesions which are like, well, broken skin, ... something where there need to be :healing:" on the surface, then be sure to use an anti-bacterial soap. Keep the surface clena and disinfected that way.

Just hang in there. It will get better.

Thanksfor that ryker, I will certainly ask my dermatologist about those injection, I use ibruprofen and aspirin to keep the inflammation to a minimum, I would liken it to having a kettle of boiling water poured all over your chest, Very painful, I have serious wounds in the past and nothing ever hurt like this does. Thanks bro.

Bbigman, I'm on accutaine as well. The one thing I do is when a pimple pops or something that would scab, I cover it with some Neosporin. It helps lubricate it and also keeps it from getting reinfected (most of the time).

But I hear your pain for everything. This is my second cycle of the stuff, I had done it once before at age 18. So I know all the sides, and also can say it was worth it for me. It's the only thing that has ever beaten my acne, and I had BAD acne.

Just keep the Neosporin, the vaseline, and the mostioriser handy and you'll be fine! Also, in the shower it doesn't hurt to have antibacterial soap that is a moisturiser. I really don't believe in bar soap while on accutaine.

To prevent the acne from getting worse while starting accutane, take some tetracycline with it.

Accutane is some strong crap---I remember when i was on it-it was during the time when my face got so dry that i couldnt open my mouth without my face cracking and i needed vaseline for my lips every 5 seconds. The worst part was i got thrown in jail for 24 hrs and they took my vaseline away and i was dying. My lips hurt so bad that when they gave us bologna sandwiches i used the grease from the mayonnaise to moisten my lips. But it works after about 2 months.

for lips, use medicated blistex(the blue little can type). What I did was scrub my lips with my finger in a hot shower and they would just peel and peel and then right when i got out i put blistex on, it felt soo cool and nice. Also stick the blistex in your nostrils, sounds a bit gross but it'll help you from getting nose bleeds which i got a few of. I also carried oil free face cream which helped a lot since my face was always dry. Good luck, if i start breaking out again after i come off this cycle back on accutane i go.

I've been on a little over a month now.. minimal clearing but some. dry lips, dry nose.. the usual.
ask your doc for some ointment called Dermator. My doc gave me samples, put it on your lips and up your nose, it helps with the dry skin better then blistex.

Manythanks strength, you are a gent as alway's, ok I am now on day 26, only 1 new spot today and on the whole I would say its started to work as of today/yesterday. Let me just say that my case is an extreme case, so severe that I cant describe, and this has all been made worse by the fact that I have had to come off juice to talk my doc into prescribing accutane, my body is in a seriously fucked state as I was on for 8 months solid, hardcore, I suffer now though, my immune system is weak and my recovery ability is extremely slow, I am in serious consideration about hitting in EQ at 200mg weekly to see if I can speed things up. I have scabs 2" long and 1" wide where the spots have been, I couldnt wash the are on my chest so they took me to hospital, gave me a shot of petadine and scrubbed it off yesterday, it was the worst pain of my life, the pethadine did NOT work, my head was flying but the pain was all real, however that said, I hope its all down hill now. bbigman2000...
