Abscess?

I have a really soar pain after injecting 2 days ago. This pain is not like any other pain from injecting. There is swelling, and the skin is slightly red about 2 inches around the sight. I have read that heat to the touch is onother sign. I know it has only been 2 days and i am hoping it will go away. But how soon is the hot to touch effect gunna take place? I applied a coldpack to help with the swelling, and the pain was slightly less. But comes back in a couple hours. I also tried adding heat, hoping maybe it was the oil and would dissapate it, but pain came back.
Any advice, K of course.

Where was the injection done and how big was the pin?

Yes heat at the sight is a good sign that there may be an infection, but not always a "sure" sign. I had an instance where I thought I had gotten an abscess and it turned out that I just injected really close to a major vein or nerve and it caused a major irration.

One thing you can do to keep track of the redness is to outline it with a fine point marker and over the next day or so see if the redness has spread. Also what was it that you injected?

That sucks. Heat is a good thing to apply. Moist heat if you have a moist heating pad. If not toss a wet washcloth in the microwave for 15-30 seconds and apply until cooled down. Repeat if needed. I agree with viper, use a marker to keep track of redness. If it looks like it is spreading, go to your doctor or if you don't wish to "expose" yourself, go to an emergency room you wouldn't normally go. If asked who family doctor is, say you don't currenlty have one (ER doctors will call your doctors office and consult with them about course of treatment and follow up care). Pay cash if you can, keep it out of medial records with ins. company.

Thank god someonse answered this. I was hoping it wasn't too late at night to get a good answer. K to you guys. I was using test e 250 mgms. 22 gauge needles about 3/4 in to 1 inch deep in quad. I think I know what caused it though. I tried injecting and hit a nerve, so I pulled out. I felt it go through the skin and fat and when it touched the muscle it jumped, without changing needles and injected again. I didn't think that something already in my body would cause irritation. God damn pins are so cheap, I don't know why i didn't change.

I heard that ibuprofen helps with the swelling, so I popped two of them.

Well I wouldnt worry too much about not changing the pin. I've hit nerves and viens and had to pull out and have just resqabbed the area with an alcohol (fug i cannot spell tonight, too much liquor) swab and used the same pin. Its alright to do that.

The one and only time that I had redness w/heat at the site is when i got too close to the nerve/vein and I had a red spot the size of a racquet ball and it was sore as hell for a few days. Finally after about 8-10 days it went away. I thought at first I may have gotten an infection or maybe didnt go deep enough in the quad and possibly gotten some oil between the muscle tissue and fat tissue and it was going to be a problem aka abscess. If you have a thermometer check your temp, running a fever? If its a digi thermom. put it against your skin on your quad away from the redness and then check the temp and repeat the process at the site of the redness and see if there is a major difference in temperature. Using your hands can be a losing battle because subconsiously you assume it is going to be hotter. Also keep an eye on your glands in your throat, are they swelling or larger than normal, another good sign that the body is fighting an infection.

No problem. Keep us updated so we know what going on and if you should consider seeking medical help. If you know anyone or can get ahold of some antibiotics it might be something to keep in mind if conditions get worse so you can start taking them ASAP.
