Abs are still dumb

New member
Anyone else sick of the johnny-come-lately types that are showing up in the gyms cuz it's trendy now and they train their abs as the focus of every session six days a week cuz that's trendy too?
dumb.
I know abs are important but they are not the end-all of physical fitness.
i can't wait til this fitness craze passes over so we can weed out all the trendy types. gyms will once again be named things like "Ed's Sweat Shop" instead of Lifestyle Family Fitness.
just a thought...

Spounds to me like you don't have abs , hey mine ain't great either but women love to run their hands over a washboard

I think that I'd give an inch off my arms for a shredded set of abs

don't hate the player just hate his game:mad:

The problem with ab's as with calves is that people do not train them like they are a muscle group...they train them more like its an aerobic event... I have large cut calves, mostly by gentics, but I have had great success in adding a couple inches over the past few years because I train them like chest or shoulders or any other muscle group, slow, controled, full range of motion, and only doing 8-12 sets per muscle group once a week...
I understand your pain...I hate ab's but I do them becuase it needs to be done, but everyday....can you imagin training legs everyday!!:bawling:

oops...guess i didnt make my point clearly.
i'm not complaining about developing abs (i do have my own). I'm just reminiscing about the days when gyms were only inhabited by men and not trendy pretty boys.

no offense intended toward my hardcore bruthas who trained abs when abs wasn't cool.:fro:

every human being has abs.. its how well the are developed and whether or not they are hidden behind a layer of fat.

yeah well his point is not that abs are not good... I beleive his point was that there are some pussies who go into the gym and do 20 sets of abs and then go do two sets of bench, and call it a night...

My abs come and go, I don't even worry about them. i haven't done a sit-up, crunch, leg-raise, or twist in over two years and I have a nice 4 pack. Six weeks after my fina cycle and i won't, but they'll be back later on, so who cares. If it wasn't for this fitness trend there wouldn't be any hot little bitches in spandex at the gym, just remeber that.

HAHAHA LOL.. my thoughts exactly... i wouldn't give an inch off my arms but, i already have a six and i train them like anyother body part! Envy does not mix with sauce! LOL

When I was younger and into martial arts I actually got bad back problems from doing tons of ab/hip flexor work and nothing for the opposing muscles (erectors, hamstrings).

Its all about balance. Right now they already get plenty of work when I do heavy front squatting or overhead pressing. If I train them directly on top of that it just makes my waist thick.

i hate you tarzan. lol. i think my ab's were the most difficult thing for me to develop over the last few years.

that's awsome. w/ me i've always had big shoulders since i was young which is probably why i got into lifting in the 1st place.. cause everyone already told me i looked like a bodybuilder. :D
