i cant squat for shit. i've been doing a 5x5 for the last couple weeks for squats. add 10 pounds every week

i can't get to parallel! my ass is almost touching the ground and im not to parallel

this sucks ass

plus im weak. 245 x 5 x 5 sets today. i think thats the most i've ever done

i think im just going to do good mornings and stuff

Keep working with it. . . build a box that gets you to the proper depth. Just imagine this Jeremy. . these could be your stats:

242lbs

Bench: 585
Squat: 750
Dead: 775

This can be you in a couple of years!!

Keep working and never give up. . .I have 100 percent faith in you!

What is your weak point? Where do you fail on your squats? (Other than your ass hitting the ground.)

Instead of giving up on squats altogether, you could start working your weaknesses for a 2-3 months, then see if you have improved.

Also, you might check your 1RM. I use 255 or so for box squats, but have hit 350 for a single on box squats. It was a nice ego boost at the time. I at least felt like I was doing something as I had never had more than 300lbs on my back before.

Thats some good weight you are using. Do not give up! Follow lot's of the great tips given on this board. Stick with it, you won't regret it!

any way you could video your squat form?
I can't imagine why you are having that much trouble getting to parallel if your form is good

thanks guys

when i squat, i place the bar on my rear delts, hold my breath, have my feet out medium-wide, force my knees out, toes are pointed sort of out, lower back is arched forward, head and chest up

it seems fine in writing, but it's not working out

it MIGHT be that my shoes are not letting me sit back enough and my knees are just a little too far foward. would that create an angle so that its nearly impossible to hit parallel?

i'm on vacation right now and i dont have my wrestling shoes to squat in. i also dont have a box or anything

when i first started squatting after my back was fixed, i maxed out at 305 to parallel :(. then i did some westside stuff and worked up to a max box squat of 435 raw. i dont know if i cheated to do that or what but my form was almost flawless

now im back to this shit

Squat barefoot. See if that helps. Just don't drop anything. :)

Work on your weak points too. Box squats, good mornings, whatever.

You're not one to give up man. You've been here a long time and have always had a positive attitude.

Don't give up! I've been working on my squat form for almost 8 years now, and I still don't have it quite right. Take the advice you are getting. It will pay off in the end.

Stay the course!

jeremys make sure your knees are out...that helps my hips get down more

DO NOT GIVE UP WHATEVER YOU DO

never give up...

ever

I don't know you in real life but it seems like you're insanely strong for your age. Keep trying - don't waste all that potential you have.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but if your ass is almost to the ground, how could you NOT be getting down to parallel?

Or are you talking about not being able to get back up after getting all the way down?

no i cant get to parallel. i have no idea why i can't! i end up pushing my knees forward past my toes just to get my ass as low as i can

Lack of flexibilty will hinder proper form.

Bro, I squatted with 125 today for 15 reps. lol If I can keep going (and I`m 35 yo) So can you. damn.

Would love to see a vid of your squat. I`m sure these guys have alot of advice for ya.

A vid or even a pic would be useful to understand how your ass can be so low, whilst you thighs don’t reach parallel.

Is your form ok with lighter weights? I’m just thinking that 10lbs is quite a big jump each week for 5x5, and that could be breaking down your form. You cant gain that much strength over 1 week, so 5 or even 2 lb increments might be better? Ok, it will take longer until you are handling the really big weights, but you are moving in the right direction...
