A year passes quickly...

A year ago a 16 year old girl from germany came to stay with me as an exchagne student. It was her big exciting year in America. She joined waterpolo, volleyball, and swim team... made lots of friends... got good grades... and really grew up from being a bright eyed silly girl to being a very dignified and considerate young woman.

I've never had kids, and it is hard to explain what it is like to do the "dad" thing when you know you will never have kids of your own... but getting up in the morning and making somebody's breakfast... driving them to school... going to all their games... talking to them about life... it's all a good thing.

She's in her room packing now. She goes home on Monday.

This weekend is going to suck. :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

So did she mature as a woman ??

Remember when i was selected to represent my high school for Close Up (See how Congress works ) Program for a week in Wash DC. Met the greatest bunch of people from Puerto Rico... So sad on the train back home... Wrote them for the whole summer and kept in touch.. Eventually knew it would be hard to see them again... Out of sight out of mind..

And this was only from one week. Can't imagine how you feel after 1 whole year, 365 days....

It's hard... almost too hard. The only way to describe it is it's like saying good bye to your kid... for life.

Her mom and best friend are here visiting. They are going to fly with her back to Germany. That will help a little.

I could never do that. Sorry man.

its tuff bro, but remember you can always keep in touch w/ her. My father was in the military so i had many teary eyed goodbyes, it is tough but it will work out in the end.-josh

Sorry to hear about that, George. Life is never sweet without the sour.

Off subject but do you or have you ever taken Deprenyl ? I've been doing research on side effects and haven't been able to find anything conclusive on short-term or long-term studies.

Will you visit her in Germany ever?

She's coming back here next summer. She has a ton of friends in Germany... and they were incredibly supportive of her this year... writing her emails... calling her every sunday... even made a CD where they all sang her German christmas songs. She is going to bring ALL of her friends with her when she comes back... no joke... the whole passle of them are making plans for a summer in California. I've got two guest rooms, an office, and a guest house... so I guess the place will be pretty packed even if I put the kids 2 to a room. At least I can look forward to a noisy house again in a year.
