A vision for the future of America

That Pope Urban II

"[...] this land which you inhabit, shut in on all sides by the seas and surrounded by the mountain peaks, is too narrow for your large population; nor does it abound in wealth; and it furnishes scarcely food enough for its cultivators. Hence it is that you murder one another, that you wage war, and that frequently you perish by mutual wounds. Let therefore hatred depart from among you, let your quarrels end, let wars cease, and let all dissensions and controversies slumber. Enter upon the road to the Holy Sepulchre; wrest that land from the wicked race, and subject it to yourselves. [...] God has conferred upon you above all nations great glory in arms. Accordingly undertake this journey for the remission of your sins, with the assurance of the imperishable glory of the Kingdom of Heaven."

"I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ's heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it."

Forgive the pretentious and unoriginal title. This is merely a scenario that came to mind after reading that thread about various antics
and shenanigans on the campus of UC Irvine. It may already be happening, or it may never happen. This is primarily the expression of
some thoughts for its own sake.

If radical Muslims in the US are able to get away with an unconstitutional assertion of their dominance, it's primarily due to three fairly
obvious factors. One, their solidarity. These boys are organized. There isn't much you can do in the middle of a hundred militant activists.
Two, the authorities will let them get away with their behaviour. It's one thing to allow them to assemble peaceably and speak. It's something
else entirely to stand on the sidelines for fear or denunciation or legal action while they violate the rights of others. Third, those who
oppose them aren't nearly as passionate or determined. Fundamentalist Muslims make even right-wing Christian crazies seem tame at times.

What would opponents have to do in order to change the situation? The only thing they could do is learn to organize themselves. If they can't
depend on the police departments, local governments, school administrations, or other officiating bodies to do their jobs, then the only option
left is self-reliance (as is often the case, existentially speaking).

Only the Christians would have a chance, as other groups simply wouldn't bother. Only the fervor of a Christian zealot could possibly stand up
to the menace of virulent Islamism as practiced by some. So, when one follower of Jesus attends a militant Muslim rally, so do his brothers.
A lot of his brothers.

This would start small, locally. One campus here, one small town there. Then it would spread. The idea is simple, and compelling: strength
in numbers. Now, when radical Muslims do something objectionable to others, those others will have the ability to voice their objections and
stand firm. In the beginning, confrontations may be limited to words and stare downs. Sooner or later, the pressure will build and situations
will explode. Violence will ensue. Eventually, they will be armed. In several years, there will be large gangs of Christians and Muslims
spread out across the nation. Fighting each other in the streets. Even those who aren't religious may turn to Christians as a bulwark against
what they perceive to be a greater menace. Meanwhile, the majority of the country would do nothing but stand back, fearfully shaking their
heads and wondering at the consequences.

In an insane world, a lot of people might be convinced that this might be the only sane course of action. However reasonable or pacific this
movement might be at the outset, it would not remain so. Things fall apart. Things eventually spiral out of control. The center will not hold.

What delicious ideas for a story.
yes indeed

then the muslims and the christians would kill each other off and the rest of us would remain
