A thought on DC training

Instead of doing:

Day 1: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Back W., Back Th.
Day 2: Biceps, Forearms, Calves, Quads, Hams

wouldn't it make more sense to do:

Day 1: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Quads, Calves
Day 2: Back W, Back Th, Biceps, Forearms, Hams

??

I've been doing dc for close to 3 weeks the way it's originally outlined, but it seems I'm exerting more energy (a good thing) on day 1, than on day 2, even though I put the same amount of intensity into all my lifts. Day 2 seems to easy ... Thoughts?

Good thought.

I imagine the reason Dante set the routine up as-is was because he anticipated the leg workout to be a super-asskicker. Between the 4-8 heavy squat/leg press/variation, the 20-repper, the freaky calf approach and the hamstring training, I suspect Dante thought that'd be all the energy anyone could reasonably assert on a given day.

That's why I like--but haven't yet tried--this split:

Mon. (or whenever)--Chest/Delts/Tris
Tues.--Back Width and Thickness/Bis
Wed.--off
Thurs.--Legs
Fri.--repeat Mon. w/ diff. exercises
Sat. and Sun.--off
Mon.--Back w/ diff. exercises
Tues.--Legs
etc.

That split sees each bodypart trained 3x in a 15-day period vs. the original's 14--a minor compromise at most.

Personally, I do not like the idea of training really hard two days in a row. It is doable, but to keep it up for many weeks on end w/ DC is...tough.

Still, the aforementioned split might be worth a shot. You might try it when you start to fail on the split you're doing now. There is definitely something to be said for hitting back "fresh"! :)

That's the split I'm trying, minus two days off in a row. He recommends it for his strongest/heaviest clients. Obviously, it's hard to do the whole upper bod split when we have to do 4-5 warmups per exercise. I was doing the exact outlined program, but since I was really sick the past week, I decided to break it up this way for extra recovery. I really liked it and here's why. After I did my inclines for chest for 15 RP's, I did a set of flat dumbbell presses with a heavy enough weight to hit at least 12 reps on. After that I did the stretches. Same for deltoids. After military presses for 15 RP's, I'd do side laterals for 20 RP, then stretches. Breaking the muscles up like this allows me to hammer another exercise in without staying in the gym for hours on end. The reason why I don't take the 2 days off in a row (M,T-on; W-off; TH,F-on; S,S-off) is because if something comes up in my life outside the gym, I won't feel guilty taking any 2 days off in a row. I'm married so sometimes shit happens.
