A sad day, indeed

I came to the harsh realization that diet soda is not your friend. I had been drinking a lot of diet coke. It kind of made it easier to bare the diet. After looking at some of the things written about it and how it affects your body's PH levels, I decided that I can't take the chance that it actually does promote muscle catabolism. I guess Crystal Light is my new best friend. Dammit man.

i can only drink about 1 a day....does a number on my stomach....diet soda that is
Dude, I'll bet I was drinking like 6 a day. Probably no good even if it didn't affect PH levels. I guess I should be drinking water anyway. I'm gonna miss it though. Especially diet vanilla coke. That stuff is the shiznits to me.

i'd vomit.....

I only drink the cherry vanilla wild berry lemon lime cool mountain ranch rasberry diet coke on heavy leg days.

I have been drinking nothing but diet soda since 1998 when I got out of the Marine Corps and learned that I'm a type 2 diabetic. I was upset that I had to give up regular Mountain Dew. It would probably taste like syrup to me know.

do you have to shoot insulin bro?

Nah, I can just control it with my diet, hence no more regular soda unless I don't eat any other carbs for a few hours. When I was originally diagnosed they said to get no more than 90g of carbs per meal with 3 45g snacks through out the day. I pretty much stay under that anyway, so occasionaly I splurge.

pretty much everything makes you sick. so fuck it.
It's not the sick part that I care about as much as the losing muscle part. I work too hard for the little that I have. I can't see doing anything I can not to keep it.

I have about a can a day. Crystal Light is great, imo, but only the lemonade. The rest of the flavors suck.

You might try iced tea with whichever sweetener you like. I go through quite a bit of that every day.

can you post a link to that please?

just cut it back to one each day dude! it seems that would have an exponentially less harmful effect as far as buildup etcetra

no need to cut all the fun outta life, we already 99.9% more than most people anyway

they did this study with fat chicks and found out that once they stopped drinking diet soda they lost like 10 lbs....

that stuff is no good for you dude...

FWIW, I've found the Kroger version of Crystal light tastes better than Crystal light, and it's cheaper too. Might consider looking at some of the generic brands.

Actually, I base that info from a post made by Mr. X I have enough respect for him that if he said it, I'm gonna take his word for it. I'm looking for a more definitive link with some research though.

You're right, they all taste the same to me and some of them cost half of what crystal light does.

So far, I have been able to resist the urge. Night time is always the hardest for me though. All of my cravings gang up on me. I have a case of diet MD in my fridge too. I'll probably cave and have one tonight. It'll be better than the amount that I have been getting.

brooheim, if you dont mind me asking...how did you find out you were type II diabetic? Obviously a blood test? But I mean were you feeling sick in the mornings or dizzy after a meal? What symptoms did you have that alerted you or your doctor to check for this?

The reason I ask is due to the fact for the last couple of months, I have been feeling ill in the mornings (bastards!) and as soon as I eat I feel better??? I am having my blood work done on March 5. To check liver enzymes, test levels, ldl/hdl, etc. A "full panel" is what my doc calls it. So did you have any symptoms or was it just discovered one day by accident? excuse my ignorance

I was getting out of the Marine Corps and they do an exit physical. They had me fast for 12 hours and drew blood and one of the tests they did was to look at my glucose levels. Mine was elevated. I have a glucose intolerance. They had me come back, drink some sugary syrup water and they took blood every hour after that and based on the time it took for my glucose levels to return to normal, they made the determination that I'm a diabetic. If you are having problems in the morning, you may be the opposite of what my problems is. I think you would be hypoglycemic and I think I'm hyperglycemic. I may have that backwards.

ever try that soda with splenda?

i wouldn't want to be consuming that much aspartame anyway....who knows what that shit does to you.....

That's not the link that I was trying to post. It had to do with the carbonation hindering protein synthesis and the body's PH balance being thrown off in such a way that it promoted muscle catabolism. I'll keep looking.

JB, you're right. No one even knows what the real deal with aspertame is.
