How many of you have prenupts?

Just studying for the CA bar exam, and after re-reviewing many of their community property laws... it would seem alot easier if everyone just got a prenumpt... out of the interest that 50% of all marriages end in divorce and it would help expediate the process... that's all.

I am not married, but i can add by telling you my Father did, with his 2nd wife. And it's a good thing he did.

California has some messed up divorce laws.

Getting 50% of your spouses earnings for 50% of the time you're married is harsh!

AFAIK in the UK prenupts do not have legal status. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd guess it varies from state to state in the US - check your has legal validity before signing, otherwise it could be worthless...

And remember, whose CDs are whose.

Are you trying to pass the bar in Cali?

Wow, the first observation of the day!

Yes, I'm studying for the CA bar exam that is at the end of this month... I'm moving out to Orange County during the first week of August ... actually with another EF member... MUHAHAHA... you'll never guess who!

50% Rate? What? I think I read that it was 41% from the National Center for Health Stats. The Census Bur. even backed down with the 50% rate in 2001 to 40%. Either stat is depressing as hell anyways !

Nope, no pre-nups for this couple !

I asked my probate attorney what he thought of prenups. (He wrote them as part of his family planning law practice.) He said that all marriages that had prenups ended in divorce. That sort of changes the 50% stat.

None for us either. IMO, having prenups kind of seems to me that the marriage is doomed from the start.
