Anyone who is anti-gun ownership should watch Kevin Costner's closing arguments in the movie JFK.

If the government (especially USA) wants to oppress her people, they will find a way. Even though I also have an extensive gun collection, if the government wanted it could bring better guns and take me out simply by attrition or technology (I have nothing that could compare with a tank, rpg or cobra helicopter). So although we are constitutionally given the right to defend our way of life from others, the reality is that it would take the unified effort of the entire nation to prevent the gov't from succeeding.

However, a person is more likely to need a gun in cases of self-defense than they will for protection from the government.

For those who do not think gun owners are capable of being civil just take a look at the crime stats for CCW license owners as a whole...very very little crime activity.

I happen to seriously question the legitimacy of ANY gun laws. Nothing will prevent a criminal from illegally obtaining a gun. Why should only the law abiding citizen be prevented or slowed in acquisition?

I think members of the Black Panther Party and certain Indian tribes would disagree with you that government officials are not breaking into their houses and killing them. And what about those religious freaks at Waco? I think there are plenty of groups in the US that have good reason of being afraid of their government blasting them off the face of the earth.

As for 'needing' a gun.

Nobody or at least not very many people 'need' an AK47 or an Uzi - and guns are not a very good thing in the hands of many people who have access to them. BUT:

As a self-defense instructor I sometimes wish that some of my students were allowed to carry weapons. For example one of my students is an Asian girl who is doing her medical studies at the moment, she walks across her university campus very late every night - the same campus where about half a dozen rapes have been reported this year. Now, I hope and pray that when worst comes to worst, those groin kick and eye gouging techniques that I have taught her will be enough. But she is about 4'10 85lb - I wouldn't like her chances against a much larger, stronger man no matter how well she has trained in self-defense. Had she access to a .357special - well then it would be a whole different story.

In essence - the fundamental right to own and use a gun for self-protection is not a bad thing, in my opinion.

I suspect that RyanH is a college student or maybe a highschool student. Either way he is just brainwashed by the media and those who would support his "cause."

If the police or the military were to go door to door they would be killed and rightly so. I don't think any of them would be so stupid, but I have seen my share of dumb
cops, so I assume there would dummies in the military.

Civil war is necessary to let those in office that the
power lies in the people hands, not some corrupt politian, and they all are to some degree.

I am looking forward to see when America is going have it's next civil war. I think it is going to be fun, cleaning out the trash of our government and get back to the basics: A Republic, not this watered down socialism that is running the country.

Your comparison of the Germans and Chinese owning guns is an inappropriate comparison since the United States is a Democracy. We don't have government officials preventing us from expressing ourselves, and breaking into our homes to take our lives away. Germany, of course, had that problem.

1) The United States is not a Democracy.

2) Germany didn't have that problem either until the populace was disarmed. =)

I saw in another post where you were going to visit Houston but were not going to work there. GOOD. Texan's value.....no.....revere their RIGHT to possess weapons. Especially handguns and assault rifles. I am a prosecutor. I love the fact that my populace is armed. I warms my heart to know that some blue haired old lady can blow the ever-livin shit outta some crackhead entering her home at night. I have had Grand juries "no-bill" several cases where the son-of a bitch needed killing. I will allways resist the governments illegal attempts to restrict my ownership of guns.
