Yesterday I realized I do not want to continue working in a factory, warehouse or anything related the rest of my life. I had had these thoughts before of course, but none so strong.
Over a year ago, I moved into a really cheap apartment so that I could go to school. My job of choice? Computer programmer. Yech. Really thought about it, and didn't like the Idea of sitting in a cubicle, driving to and from the City every day, ecking out as much creativity as I could in programming, and not having any left over to follow my true dream; To write.
Why is writing not my dream job? To start off with, only the best of the best ever make the kind of money to live soley off of it, and I don't want to kid myself, I don't think I will be the best anytime soon. So I am thinking of a good job that I don't have to fall into day to day drudgery, and lose my muse. (like in a factory, let me tell you about the kinds of inspiration that causes
)
Some thoughts were:
1)Forest Ranger. They get a neat house paid for by the tax payers, few bills, beautiful scenery, and pretty much don't have to deal with uneducated trogdolytes working in a factory.
2.) Archeologist. Acedemic, I love history and playing in the dirt. But don't think I could teach. Would have to try for a job as a research assistant rather than a professor. Jobs are a bit restricted, a Ph.D is expensive to get, but it would be fun.
3.) Pimp. Well ok, this one is out. Bad health and dental plans no 401k.
Anybody have any good job recommendations? The oddball, non-drudgery types would be prefered. Drug dealer, Giggilo, and stripper is out. Any jobs where I have to deal with customers on a regular basis is out also, so sales of any sort are definately out. I am a bit of a quiet, aloof guy.
Making alot of money is not an issue. 30k a year is enough to live on, thats all that matters.
