a community through trust one act at a time

I was walking home from University

My residential area is speckled with many open spaces so people have their own fruits and vegitables.

I had this moment of appreciation when I saw a cart from far off loaded with mother natures bounty.

my first moment of Appreciation came when I saw that someone was leaving out their goods for the neighborhood, a random person put the cart with their own vegitables and fruits and even provided grocery bags and ties to seal the bags for others to take what they needed or wanted

I was sitting there looking at the cart full of buetiful things and was in awe of the trust that this person had in leaving these thing out, and also the act of giving and labor this person put in to it

then it got even better a second moment of apprecition came:

the cart had Directions posted it and it said:

these are percimens and flowers and variuos veigtables from our garden please take what you want or need, give one to a freind

if you have a buck or two please leave it with us, and the money will be used to buy small gifts for needy children for Christmas, even if it just buys them a card ......

then the Third moment of appreciation came, it actually made me cry.......

I was like "ok where do I leave the money"

I looks around and saw no one in sight, then as I was quietly thinking a noticed in the back corner of the cart, and open plastic jar with no top.......

I looked in and there thinking no way?!

no way..............

there had to be $200 DOLLARS in there at least, I sat there confused and then a moment of silence came and I could hear only two words in my head

I took it all in, and sat there as a student learning

Trust, and Love.........trust and love..................

is all I heard or felt.......

I cryed for what I am not sure, the feeling was to complex overall to ascribe to one emotion............

Are you guys kidding? You actually believe that someone grew vegetables, had so much, that they decided to just give them away, but first, they place a can to accept donations, to get this, to buy gifts for children?

People like that do not exist, and those that believe they do are suckers.

Omega, I believe the story happened, but I don't think the person left the fruit "just because," unless there were razorblades in them.

I just re-read your post.

If this story took place outside of the continental US, it may have occured for the right reasons.

nice story... it's stories like that which turn the objective, unemotional, obdurate self like me into restoring some sort of "feelings" for the general people---- but as good as the story was, i am by nature and nurture a pessimist and cynic, and I think there was some sorta of self-serving motive for the persons who left those vegetables. what if it was just a weak attempt to manipulate someone's emotions, as it would to many, in order to garner more "sympathy donations" ie, more money for an elaborate scheme. i've seen mall santa-wannabe's and homeless people try to do the same exact thing...

then if you can discern that and hate the dishonesty,

the listen to the honesty and natural affection within you screams out for justice

therfor its you duty to set an example and do what no one else is willing to do...........

and to be the antithesis of that wich you hate instead of being just like them.......

so..

how many hookers were you able to get with that 200 dollars??

heheh

good story.

In my neighborhood... Mexicans would have stole the money... all the vegetables and the cart.

Great story. I had a similar but not as spectacular experience driving with a friend through the back roads of either South Jersey or Pennsylvania when going to Hershey PA. It was beauitiful land with cows grazing on farmland and stuff. We took pictures of cows it was fun because we`re from the city and sorta got sidetracked.

Anyway while driving we came to this vegetable stand on the side of the road. Noone was there, There was just a sign and a little basket Take what ever you need and leave some money. "We trust you" I WAS SHOCKED. We could`nt believe it. (Especially being from the city) We each took pictures putting the money in the basket while holding a few tomatoes and stuff with the sign in the background..

This happened about 15 years ago but I`ll never forget that moment in time.

Gonelifitng sound pretty good to me......=-)
