A co-worker who lets people down?

A co-worker has given himself the day off whilst the rest of us have to do the work for him. He's gone to collect a friend at the airport and rang in sick. Should we sort it out amongst ourselves or report it to the HR Department for what is a disciplinary issue?

I'm sick of it.

It depends on how much of a pain in the ass you are to your boss for making such a complaint and how badly you need your job. Sure, ratting him out may be protocol, but being a crybaby could cost you a promtion if your boss is'nt up for dealing with trivial shit. You're screwed either way.

Most managers dont reward crybabies. I doubt reporting him will move you up in the company, and likely would look bad since you are not being a team player.
