A civil discussion on thread moving

If this thread could not be moved, locked, whatever, that'd be great.

I'm just curious on a few things. Isn't this board here for the benefit of its members? Isn't the customer always right? Isn't the goal of any business or service to make it's members happy?

Then why is there such a militant stubbornedness to move threads when all of the members would much rather have it the other way? What is being accomplished by this other than the annoyance it causes and the rising of tempers that comes along with it? I understand the motive behind it, but the fact remains no one wants to visit 30 different message boards just to discuss different topics. I totally understand moving threads that aren't necessarily "appropriate" for the c&c boards (anabolics, adult pictures) but other than that, it is the chat board and chatting contains a wide array of subject matters.

I don't get the "my way or the highway" attitude of all of the moderators and ethos of the board.

in all seriousness, ,we are doing exactly what George Spellwin requested of us mods approximately 3 days ago

Yeah I totally understand that facet of it. I'm not trying to get in an argument with moderators or anything. My question is why in the first place? Why no attention paid to the board's opinion? I mean I get bombed by a moderator because I think it is bad for the board?

I understand that, but how about letting the threads CHILL in Chat and Conversation for a few days, so we can CHAT AND CONVERSATE about them.. and then once they have run their course, move them to their final resting spots.

"chat and conversation" has a very generalized and broad meaning...i think a topic would have to be something extraordinary out of context, to be moved...
just my .02

george's reasons are his own and that's all he or the mods need. i will say he is VERY adamant about threads being in their correct forum
OKAY. :coffee:

That's what people don't seem to understand.

It's SpellMaster's website, he decided what goes down.

He can do anything.....he doesn't have to give justification.

It's his party.....

Plats have the ability to use copy and move thread features. I've created a thread in the appropriate place (say, the sports forum) and sent a copy of it to chat so that way the other forums can get some activity and so that it can get some quick and numerous responses in chat. Yet, the copied thread still gets moved.

I agree with everything Slickdad said. My main thing is that every message board has its own set of peopel that visit it. The forums that people will choose to post in are the forums where they know people and are looking for specific peoples input. THerefor it is stupid for their thread to be moved because all of a sudden it becomes a pointless post that the creator won't bother to check anymore and the thread will then immediately die. I know people that frequent C&C not every other forum so therefor why would I want the opinions of mostly strangers that I probably won't bother to check anymore once it is moved?

There's no such word as "conversate". I think the word you're looking for is "converse".

yeah, umm, I'm gonna have to ask that George Spellwin not make these requests. That'd be greaaaaat.

People, bitchin will get you nowhere. The reason is plain and simple and for all of us to see: As Tuc brilliantly said it: Low traffic forums are a bone for sponsors. Move the threads to the correct forums, increase traffic there and make it more desirable for sponsors.

If you want the threads to remain at C&C we would ALL need to pay for it.

When will you understand that NOTHING happens in this .com whitout money being the ultimate reason?

C'mon. It doesn't NEED "quick and numerous reponses" (especially ones that say "In!" and "BUMP"); it needs to be where it belongs. So, you're right -- in THAT case, the copied thread should not be moved. It should be deleted out of Chat and left in Sports.
