8 weeks of hell...

Well, not that anyone cares...but, I've decided to do a ketogenic diet for 8 weeks. Hopefully, this will finally get me ripped. I attempted a CKD approach, but, I always FUCK up on the carb-ups majorly. Plus, I just don't understand it all that well (it's friggin' overwhelming for a stupid 17 year old ... heh). I don't see how just staying in ketosis for an extended period of time won't get you ripped faster than doing a CKD (granted, I know you lose muscle staying in ketosis for an extended period of time, but, isn't it worth it?). Just thought I'd put my thoughts down in "writing" ...if anyone has any suggestions/opinions ...feel free to tell me about them.

Stats...

I'll take all of the necessary measurements shortly. For now, here are the bare essentials.

Height- 6'3ft
Weight- 216lbs
Bodyfat- 13%

-Workout: I'm going to be doing Kakdiesels (sp?) workout that he had posted for his CKD article.

-Supplements: Atkins protein powder, Xenadrine, and Flax Seed Oil (Also a protein bar here and there for when I'm in school and don't have a shaker with me or whatever).

-Cardio: 4-5 times week, 20-30 min; Empty stomach first thing in the morning (I love getting out there at 5am and being the only one jogging on the track).

Hopefully, when it's all said and done...I'll actually have an AFTER PHOTO this time (my goal is 6-7% bodyfat...a goal that has eluded me for far too long now!)

In my opinion, the main reason to do a ketogenic diet is for it's muscle sparing properties.

A TKD sounds perfect for you. Ingest around 25g of high GI liquid carbs 15 minutes before you begin training. You can use high GI carbs post-workout with alpha lipoic acid or vanadyl sulfate if you want, too. Just replace some fat calories with your pre/post workout carbs. It will improve your workouts and prevent muscle loss.

Massive-
Go with the TKD. After a few weeks you won't be able to train for shit w/out carbs. If you fuck up on carb-ups, then I guess there's no alternative. But a straight keto for eight weeks will make you lose muscle. Good Luck.

I'm with ya there man. I'm 17 too and I'm doing an 8 week ketogenic diet as well. Carb ups just mess me up as well. I've been eating about 15-20 grams of carbs a day now and its been working for me so far. I'm at about 13%Bf and want to get to about 5-8% by the end of June. I'll keep you posted on how its going.
Right now I'm

5'6
178
33 inch waist

I do cardio and weight lift 7 days a week. I hear if you do less reps with more weight and work more body parts more often you can conserve muscle mass better. Also I use Xenadrine, well I just ran out and I ordered some Zenotrope from bodybuilding.com like a week ago (2-3 day delivery my ass!).

Hahaha, bodybuilding.com ...they're hilarious. I ordered some ALA from them not too long ago. It has been well over 2 weeks now, and nada. They suck. I just go to netrition.com now. Anyways, krazyiefresh, I have a suggestion for you. You said-

Don't you think this is a bit of overkill? I mean, I think you're just going to end up over-training. I'm doing cardio 5 days a week on an empty stomach AND lifting 3 days a week. Well, if that's what works best for you (and you know what you're doing) then do it. As for doing a "TKD"...I'm just going to stay in ketosis for 8 weeks straight. I cannot even come close to carbohydrates without wanting to take in more than I should. Call it a lack of will-power or whatever, but, I can only stick to ONE thing (that being- staying in ketosis and not touching carbs) at a time.

Krayzie-
I like the enthusiastic approach of doing weights and cardio seven days a week, but don't do it. Your body will go against you quick. Drop to 4 - 5 days a week. Do 45 - 60 min cardio at a time. You'll burn more fat and you'll get your rest days in there too. Good Luck.

MMorris-
Try drinking pure maltodextrin or dextrose in water for a TKD. Chances are you won't look forward too it and won't feel the need to eat carbs. But, if you must go 8 straight weeks in ketosis... well, just monitor yourself closely and make sure you're not losing muscle. Your training will also become alot harder after a few weeks. Good Luck.

7 days a week of hitting the gym is kinda overkill I know, and this may sound stupid but I'm actually adicted to going to the gym. No Kiddin'. I sit there biting my nails then eventually I just gotta go
