600lbs bench disaster

where the hell were the spotters on that one
I remember seeing this thing a year ago, pretty gruesome, hope the dude turned out ok

actually, he died. seriously.
 
The first cracking noising you hear was his right thumb breaking, the second cracking sound you hear is his chest and ribs breaking. His name was Rick Garvin and he died from internal bleeding b/c of this.

the comments under the video gave a different name and said dude just broke a few ribs and was fine...
 
Medical treatment may have been questionable.

I know someone who got broad sided at high speed. Tossed his car 30 feet in the air and sent 8 ribs through a lung. He was in rough shape for a few days but was walking around in two weeks.

I'd rather have 600 pounds drop a couple feet.
 
Wow thats rough. I have a friend from Ohio whose arm completely snapped on a warm up for a bench comp, i think it was 625lbs or something. This happened about a month ago. He may never bench again. And he was an all natural star. Sad.

The camera is too far away for any of those cracking noises to be from the lifter. I speculate that the cameraman was eating potato chips.
