From menshealth.com:
Q: I read that to lose weight, you should eat six small meals a day. But with my job, that's virtually impossible. Can I still get good results from my diet by eating three or four meals a day?
A: Eating frequently can have its advantages, mainly because it prevents transient drops in blood sugar, which can lead to episodes of binging later. It also allows you to take advantage of the thermic effect of food -- the amount of energy your body needs for digestion -- after each meal, which helps to burn a few more calories each day. However, my opinion is that there is nothing magical about eating this frequently that will automatically result in weight loss. I really doubt there is much difference between eating four, five, or six times per day, assuming the same amount of food is eaten over the day. So fashion your diet so that it works for you. If you find eating three times a day is easier, you'll be more likely to stick to your diet consistently, which is the real key in losing weight.
