6 miles in 50 minutes! :)))

Yeah, my little PR. I haven't been running that long though, so there is still a lot of easily achievable PRs in the future. :)
The thing is: after 50 minutes my knees start to hurt and give up. What do you think I should do to avoid that problem?
My idea is to run the same mileage, but try to do it in much less time. will that help?
I don't run every day, but more like EOD. What are your thoughts? I only weigh 175 lbs at 6'.

I did that in High School, but I was 140 lbs, 5'10" at age 18. I am 185 now and I don't think I could do it.
 
6 miles in 50 minutes? That's a good PR if you're starting out. Can I ask how long have you been running? What is your average mpw? What kind of surface are you running on?

thank you! :) I have been running for about 2 months. I started out with just 2 miles, and at a time, and that seemed like a lot. But 2 weeks ago I was like: hey, why not try to run a little bet more. So I just ran 6 miles. What a surprise. I did lose some weight recently, around 20 - 25 lbs. Looking to get even leaner.
 
if you want to be faster, do intervals.

speedwork is what makes you faster.

running distance will make you a little faster as you lose weight and your VO2Max goes up, but that is about it.

that said, distance is still good for your cardiovascular system.

if you are having joint issues when you run, then you are likely either not wearing good shoes for running, or you are increasing your mileage too fast and your muscles aren't used to supporting your weight over that distance.
it will deal with that in two ways - 1) lose the weight, and 2) get stronger.
both at the same time.

when you lose the weight, it isn't always all fat - it will do muscle too.
