Been doing 5X5 for quite a while now. Sometimes switching to the 5X3 to punch through a stagnant weight. I'm a big fan as I've gotten more gains from it than anything else I've tried. The thing I like about it too is it's SIMPLE!! Aside from writing my weights down for that day there's nothing else. I come home and write on the whiteboard what I lifted for the 5X5 set and a checkmark or an X if I did, or didn't get that last rep.
Further to that, I met a man (...with 7 wives..blah, blah) in the gym one day who asked me what I was doing (you know, one of those "talkers"). I gave him a 60 mph explanation of 5X5. A few weeks later this guy literally "bounces" up to me happier than a pig in the proverbial feaces. Apparently the 5X5 was giving him great gains and he was thrilled about it (he's not a small guy either). So I took the time to explain some more about the 5X5 program, diet, etc. I saw the guy again on Teusday, and he is still thrilled about this program. Says he can't believe how much weight he's packing on from the program.
I have nothing but good things to say about 5X5 (as you can tell...duh!). I was training with another guy a while back (who's been a toothpick his whole life) and in 3 months he grew significantly on the program with no supps, or drugs, just FOOD and vitamins (of course).
You may do better on a different program (westside, DC's, etc.) but the nice thing about 5X5 for me is it is SOOOOO SIMPLE! KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).
Try it you'll like it.
