5'9" touchin rim

OK im 5'9" and off one foot i can touch rim, but two feet i can only grab halfway up the net. Horrible vertical, but pretty high i guess if i can touch rim with a running start. Question is what should i do to increase vert? Jumpshoes? I want to do squats because its one of the most important overlooked lifts, but im trying to play ball at ASU next year and id rather be able to jump than to have big strong legs.

Anything i can incorporate into my squats to help my vert? Skip squats all together or keep them in? I also read somewhere though that if you can squat 2x your bodyweight, than your vert should be 30+....any thoughts/suggestions?

Squat overlooked?

It is the starting point to any leg routine.

My understanding was that strength training + polymetrics were best done in conjunction to boost vertical leaps.

This is based purely on what I've read - but squatting, jump squats, box jumps etc. Perhaps post this question on a sports specific forum?

Check the thread "Journey to a beast" the user MWM5 seems to be very good at vertical jumps routines.

i believe this is called complex training. you do a set of 3 rep squats, must be under 20 seconds, and then broad jump/box jump for under 60 seconds - explosive, not speed.

Its my explosiveness that isnt good, im gonna go check out that article by mwm5. Would complex training be good for legs if im also riding a bike? Basically want my legs to get in football shape, so quicker, not endurance, but rather be in shape for quick bursts, and have my legs be able to jump and have power. I heard hammys are good to work out for leg power....

complex training works for explosiveness.

I think you got it right here.

I could dunk since 9th grade, like 9 years ago. After high school, I could no longer dunk, but can still get up. After getting in bad shape for a while, I could still just get rim. Then, I started doing squats and deadlifts and leg presses. I went out to play basketball, and I could dunk it with ease. Then I started running, and doing agility stuff. I can now jump higher than ever before and can do some pretty sweet dunking.

A combination, of Power (from squats), agility (work like jump rope, box jmps, and 4-square hopping) will get you your own max vertical. Doing sprints will also really help with your explosiveness off the ground.

So pretty much i should just include box jumps and jump ropes with my squats and deadlift, and maybe keep track of my increases? WOuld it be good to incorporate jumpsoles into leg days? Ill sprint more then, just seems like since im tryin to bulk that i shouldnt worry about this until i cut up..
