5 disc cd player

is it normal for a 5 disc carousel cd player to require an external amplifier?

I think so. My friend bought a 10 disk player and an amp on the weekend. All the disk player does is...well, play the CD's. To hear anything you need an amp.

However, I know a few of the less sophisticated disk players have built in amplifiers. Boom-boxes and the like.
