3 Years after 9/11 attacks, are we better off?

Well, Bush says Iraq is a "catastrophic success" which is an oxymoron, but we don't expect the president to have mastered the English language.

Osama Bin Laden is still missing but manages to release a new Jihad recruiting video every few months. The President boasts that we have killed or captured 75% of Al Qaeda's leaders even though nobody seems to know how anyone determines this figure. I'm sure they have been steadily recruiting these past 3 years while we've concentrated military efforts in Iraq.

While our President and his administrators seem to be living in a different world, at least it looks like the CIA and FBI have been awakened. I hope that they have truly made changes for the better.

After looking through the 9/11 commision report it's astounding that so many leaders, government agencies, and government workers failed so horribly. I mean two of the guys got into the country despite being known terrorists that were being tracked by the CIA BEFORE the 9/11 attacks. I mean, they tracked these two guys from Malaysia to Thailand and then to Los Angeles where they then lost track of them. WTF! Our CIA agents lost track of them in our own damned country?

I think the soul of the country is better off. Through my neighborhood I see more people who fly the US flag with PRIDE instead of as a left over decoration from July 4th.

Now the government, on the otherhand, hasn't changed. To expect it to is a waste of time, in my opinion. I love my country, but my government makes me sick.

this may be the only good that has come from all of it..(the terrorists, the predatory capitalists.) im glad you feel more connected now....its the best revenge to get back at both parties ...... :chomp:

oh and nothing has changed in three years since or three years before for that matter.......a threat to your life (or mine) was allways there......this is the grand illusion of america ...that it isnt (wasnt ) there....not a bad illusion to go for but a illusion none the less...

Better off than before the attacks? No way. However I am comforted by the fact that there has not been another attack on our soil since even though that could change at any time.

It's hard to say where we would be if we had taken a different course of action. There has been good and bad come out of this situation.

Halliburton is much better off. The Oil industry is doing splendid. Military contractors are making a killing. Big business is loving the tax cuts.

Are you better off?

What makes you think the President or his administration gives a fuck about you?

I'm not sure but was your post directed towards me? If so I don't know where I wrote that the administration does give a fuck. I'm not really sure if any of the past administrations have given a fuck about me either hard to tell really.

The small business I run has posted it's best gains in it's history this year that is definitely a good thing. The tax cuts have also helped me even though I'm not rich, like I said it could be worse but then again it's hard to say where we would be if we had taken a different course of action. I was always against the war in Iraq just for the record.

I believe in the long term view, the world is now better off for our post 9/11 actions, assuming the faith is kept, and the efforts continue as they are. (ie, seeing Iraq through to democracy.)

LOL@stringbean

Here some obvious points that you managed to miss sweetie

(1) There has been no new attack on American soil. I guess "some" people not driven by an agenda might acknowledge that as a "slight" victory. Not as substantive as your point on proper use of the english language, but worth mentioning none the less.

(2)A hostile regime in Afghanistan has been removed, and no longer is that country a safe haven for Al Qaeda. Moreover tens of thousands of crazy fundamentalists can no longer travel there freely to be trained as terrorists as they did all throughout the Clinton years.

(3)Thousands of Al Qaeda terrorists have been killed and or captured. And as the President said confirmed by the intelligence agencies of our allies, 75% of its leaders have been killed or captured as well, including many most directly responsible for the attack.

(4)Hundreds of millions of their capital has been seized, along with countless sources they regularly used for financing. That is obviously an ongoing effort.

(5) We have finally overturned the gutting of the CIA from the Clinton years, and our intelligence agencies are far ahead of where they were prior to September 11. Strange that you complain of the "incompetence" of those agencies , but fail to mention the man most directly responsible for its failure.

I could go on but you get the point.

Oh yeah and the economy has recovered from the Clintion recession, 9/11, and a war in Iraq.

Yeah we're beter off cupcake, even if you don't realize it yourself
