3 weeks with Stim X

zaxxon1982

New member
Just got my bottle of Stim X today and will keep this journal of my experiences with the supplement. I plan to take it 3 times a week before heavy workouts. I'm doing a Rippetoe-inspired A/B split three days a week plus a fourth workout for arms and calves. This thread is where I will put all feedback on the substance... how it affects me, how the effects change through the day, how the effects change over time.

Some important background. Stats are 29, 6'1", 225, 25% (guessing, prolly a little lower but who knows). I work out first thing in the morning. Diet is about 2800 cals/d over 7-8 meals including about 275g of protein. Other supplements I'm taking are:

Nature's Best: Zero Carb Isopure
Optimum Nutrition: 100% Casein Protein
Protein Factory: Hydrolized 520 Protein
Vitamin Shoppe: Some multivitamin for men
Dextrose
Maltodextrin
Fish oil

Drugs I use:
Caffeine (in food/drinks)
Carisoprodol (muscle relaxer after deadlifting - recovering from a back injury)
Hydrocodone/APAP (infrequent; also related to back injury)
Cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer/sleep aid)

Also considering the Sesapure/Glucorell R combo from AF. If I add them I will describe changes to the effects of Stim X, if any.

Other background. I sleep 7-8 hours per night. Wake up at 5:30 and workout from 6:00 to about 7:00. Have a desk job during the day and occasionally play some tennis or run a few miles at night.

I'm excited to explore this supplement and will keep you all posted on what happens.

Saturday, March 18

6:45 - Woke up. Took 1 cap Stim X with 16 oz water.

6:50 - Had a preworkout shake consisting of about 2/3 protein and 1/3 medium GI carbs.

7:15 - Began workout. Today I'm doing squats, chins, standing OH press, and weighted hypers. I'm pretty excited about the workout. Maybe the Stim X, maybe psychosomatic.

7:15 to 8:15 - Workout was good. I was consistently eager to get on to the next set, and I definitely attribute this to the Stim X. Good thing I had my watch or I'd probably stack the sets up too close to each other. Mouth was definitely very dry. Afterwards I was a little jittery getting back in the car. Lower back is pretty tight from the hypers so I took 350mg carisoprodol.

8:30 - PWO shake. It was disgusting. I didn't want to drink it at all. Possibly because of the Hydro 520 I use in it, but I'm attributing it to the appetite suppression from the Stim X. I choked it down without gagging. No nausea.

9:30 - Shower/relax. I've been yawning a bit. I think the meprobamate (carisoprodol's active metabolite) is sedating me a bit. Will be interesting to see what happens when the sedative wears off (should be in about an hour).

10:15 - I notice that I'm sweating a little. Didn't sweat more than usual this morning, but I should be cooled down by now. Also had a midmorning shake. Not too hard to get this one down, not because I'm hungry but because I'm very thirsty.

11:00 to 1:00 - Went to a picnic and ate 3 potato chips. No appetite whatsoever. I will try to eat something in the next hour or so, but it may be tough. Energy level is not particularly high and I'm beginning to think the earlier drowsiness was not due to the meprobamate after all. Still a little sweating but not much... probably wouldn't even notice it if I weren't keeping this log.

1:30 - Forced myself to eat some leftover steak for lunch. Interesting experience here... I have no appetite at all, but my body isn't really rejecting the food I make it eat. After the steak and some veggies I am glad to not have to think about food again for a couple hours.

2:00 to 4:30 - Went on a couple errands. Pretty monotonous stuff, but it's not boring me. Is this from the Stim X? I need to pay attention to my reactions to simple activities to see if I have a different level of focus/engagement compared to when I'm off the stimulant.

5:00 - Had a glass of milk. No big deal. Still not hungry, but the thought of food isn't as vexing to me as it was six hours ago.

6:00 to 7:30 - Went out to dinner. Perceived the same phenomenon from earlier. I was eating not to satisfy hunger, but rather to get nutrition into my body. My stomach wasn't resisting me at all... it just never asked for more. This is actually a very nice manifestation of appetite suppression, and it's one I haven't encountered before. I will pay very close attention to this.

8:00 - Sat down to make this entry. I am typing a little faster than usual and mental focus is still good. I'm getting a little worried that I may have some trouble sleeping tonight, but will update that tomorrow.

Overall - Decent first day. Nothing extreme one way or the other, except for a pretty remarkable level of appetite suppression. I never felt wired and was only a little jittery right after the workout (at about T+1:30). I also have not had any sort of crash. Focus has been decent all day. I suspect I will learn more about the effects of Stim X by observing my "off" days than my "on" days, but we'll have to wait and see.

Great log. That is the same affects I get one one cap. 2-3 gets me the more wired feeling. One is stable energy and 0 hunger.

A quick update. No trouble sleeping last night. My dog woke me up at about 3:00 and I had no trouble getting back to sleep. I feel pretty normal right now. Next workout is Monday morning - will update here Monday night.

Monday, March 20

7:00 - Woke up. Took 1 cap Stim X with 16 oz water.

7:10 - Had a preworkout shake consisting of about 2/3 protein and 1/3 medium GI carbs.

7:45 - Began workout. Squats, bench, deads, and abs today. I definitely feel capable but not as excited as I was Saturday. I'm thinking the excitement I felt then was probably psychosomatic after all.

7:45 to 9:00 - Another good workout. Didn't have the urgency I had last time but was very deliberate and had no problem exploding through the movements. More dry mouth. I am convinced that this is one of the negative sides for sure. Normally I visit the water fountain between the various lifts, but today I was going over there between SETS. Looks like I'll have to bring a water bottle from this point forward. No jitters of any kind today. Squats plus deads did a number on the CNS and I was definitely not having any trouble with moving too quickly.

9:10 - Another sickening PWO shake. Again I see the effects of the Stim X in this remarkable appetite suppression. Again got through the shake with no nausea.

9:30 - Shower/relax. I'm tired again. Having thought about this a little, I think that it's due to the insulin spike from the PWO. Wore off last time, I expect it to do so this time as well.

10:30 - I went to work and am again noticing the sweating. It wasn't too bad in my office (which is very cold), but when I went to get a morning coffee with some friends I had to fan myself to stay dry. I am sure this is the Stim X... I may take one on a non-workout day to see if it causes the sweating from a relaxed state or just delays the cool-down from a workout session.

11:00 to 2:00 - Various work activities and lunch. Again no appetite at all. Work doesn't seem to be much of a problem, but I happen to be pretty interested in what I'm doing so it's hard to say whether it's the Stim X or just the work keeping me engaged.

2:30 - Forced down an afternoon snack (some tuna). Againthe appetite is nothing but there is no nausea. I'm really liking this.

3:00 to 7:30 - Not much to say here. Work is over. Going to get a steak with a buddy.

8:00 to 10:00 - Dinner. Incredibly hard to eat this stuff. We went to a pretty nice steakhouse and I took 75% of it home in a bag. Again with the appetite suppression.

Overall - Good focus all day, and low appetite plus a little morning sweating. I'm thinking that sums up what 1 of these does. I will be off on Tuesday but lift Wed, Thurs, and Fri, so I will see then what taking the supplement does over multiple consecutive days' use.

I had something of a personal upheaval this week that kept me off the boards but not out of the gym. I originally intended to just dose on the A/B workout days and skip the Stim X on arms day, but I wanted to see how three consecutive days on the supplement would affect me. I'll summarize from my handwritten journal here to keep the length in check.

Wednesday, March 22:

Early morning: Awaken, Stim X, Preworkout shake. Same as above.

Good workout. Squats/chins/OH press plus some weighted hypers. Really thirsty but otherwise totally capable today.

PWO shake/shower: More of the suppressed appetite. I am developing the skill of consuming food when I don't want it, and this is coming in most handy with this supplement. Shakes are a little easier than real food because I'm so thirsty.

Morning/lunch/afternoon: The sweating isn't actually all that bad considering that I'm using a stimulant, but I have an office job and the rings under the arms are pretty embarrassing. Still very dry and not hungry in the least. I think I could cut very well on Stim X, surviving comfortably consuming nothing but shakes.

Evening: I'm tired by 9:00. No problems.

Thursday, March 23:

Early morning: Awaken, Stim X, Preworkout shake.

Workout was decent. It's an accessory day and not all that intense. I'm pretty sure I won't use the Stim X again for this workout as I don't really need it and I found myself tempted to do more than I should.

PWO shake and shower at home, then cooldown. It looks like the extra heat I've felt in the mornings is the Stim X keeping me hot from workouts as opposed to creating it out of nothing. I didn't get too hot in the gym today and am cooling off much easier today.

Work: Crazy day and wasn't paying too much attention to my physiology. More sweat, but likely from nerves.

Overall for Thursday: I'm feeling very dry, going back into my throat and sinuses. I was very busy at work today and didn't drink as much as I should have. That won't happen again.

Night: Stayed up watching NCAA, but was pretty tired.

Friday, March 24:

Early morning: Same as always, but this time I am really tired from the long day and late night. If I am fully alert by the time I get to the Y it will be a testament to the "morning coffee" usefulness of the product. Not sure if daily use for this effect is a good idea though, and I'd hate to get addicted to any stim.

Workout was excellent. Squats/bench/deads today. This is a very taxing workout from a CNS standpoint, and the Stim X is definitely a helper here. Forgot to get a water bottle so made lots of trips to the fountain. Incredible workout overall.

"Worked" from home today and sweated all day. The t-shirt handled it much better than the dress shirts, but this is definitely irritating. I think I drank about 300 ounces of h2o today, which was very easy to do given that I've now used the stim 3 days straight.

Night: Not too tough to get to sleep. The only effect that increased with consecutive days' use was the thirst and dry mouth. Water is really a non-negotiable part of any program of use for Stim X.

Saturday and Sunday: Back off the Stim X, back to normal in pretty much every way. Monday will be the first time I use 2. Will report on that Monday or Tuesday.

Sorry missed a couple days of the log.

This week marked my first experimentation with 2 caps of Stim X. As always, they are taken preworkout, first thing in the morning, with a preworkout shake of about 200 cals.

By now my daily schedule is pretty clear so I'll just point out highlights.

The energy level is definitely higher on 2 caps than 1. I mentioned before that 1 cap had a nice "morning coffee" effect from an energy standpoint but didn't really step on the gas. 2 caps will do just that.

On the way to the gm I could already tell how much more alert I was. The Monday workout was squats/oh press/chins plus hypers and it was great. That's not a really taxing routine from a CNS standpoint, so I was looking forward to Wednesday. More on that later.

The workout itself went very well. The sides were all there, and worse than before. Dry mouth was the worst. Good thing I actually remembered the water bottle that day. I didn't feel particularly strong, but I definitely powered through the workout. Very nice all around, especially the hypers.

Rest of the day I was on fire. I was working on some pretty abstract things, and I was creative and capable all day. It was very even and manageable though, to the point that I actually don't fear taking three caps (although that will not happen any time soon).

The appetite was actually not too bad. I am either developing a bit of a tolerance or getting better at force feeding myself. Put away about 3300 calories today counting a filthy Reuben for lunch.

Night was easy. Asleep by 10:30.

Wednesday was similar all around. The important difference was that Wednesday was the squats/bench/deads workout, which is a killer on the CNS. The 2 caps made me handle the CNS fatigue much better than I do without the stim. I was still a little out of it immediately after the deads, but there was none of the enduring effects that I usually see on that day. I will watch for this phenomenon in the future, and if it continues I think I will make 2 stim X caps part of that workout every time.

The afternoon was nice. Able to relax without falling asleep, which I attribute to the stim X. Generally it's hard for me to take an afternoon off to watch movies or play games, etc. without nodding off. Today I was able to, to the credit of the stim X.

Overall impression so far is that the 2 caps really give an energy boost and are a good CNS support for movements that tax the body in that way. Also nice for people who want to enjoy lazy time without it turning into nap time. Force feeding is, of course, a necessity, as is LOTS of water. I think I drank 300 ounces today counting the protein shakes.

That stuff is selling like hot cakes. I sent an email over to AX to find out the DPS status. They should have more on the way.

Excellent they sent me an order comfirmation after they had sent me the email saying they were out of stock and it included the Stim X in the email invoice so I guess its coming.

Here's the rundown on the Friday, Saturday, and Monday workouts (3/31 4/1 4/3).

Friday was the squat/chin/oh press/hyper day. Still using 2 caps this week. The 2 caps one day, zero caps the next day hasn't been a problem so far, but I will be watching closely to see how my energy and appetite respond to the roller coaster.

Schedule is pretty normal here (see above posts for that). The workout was great. By the time I was done with the hypers I was looking for excuses to do some more work but thought better of it and got out of the gym. My mouth is as dry as ever. On the way out I noticed that I was definitely more amped than I had been Wednesday. I attribute this to the lower CNS strain from this workout compared to the other. Bottom line is that Stim X really fills the tank from a CNS/energy standpoint, and if you don't empty it in the gym you'll notice plenty extra hanging around.

Rest of the day was not too bad. I did forget to eat for about 4 hours and didn't get my midmorning meal because I wasn't anything like hungry and engrossed in what I was doing (possibly attributable to the Stim X, but I'm not ready to credit that to the supplement at this point). Sweating wasn't a problem, confirming my earlier suspicion that Stim X keeps me warm more than it warms me up.

I was able to focus on whatever I wanted all day, but I'm not really much of an ADD problem in the first place so it's hard to tell if there's any effect in this area.

No problems sleeping.

Saturday it was back to 1 cap for an easy arms/calves day. I didn't notice much to speak of during the workout other than the dry mouth.

Rest of the day was completely normal. I noticed again that I was able to engage in some laziness Saturday afternoon without napping, a definite positive from my perspective. Appetite suppression was still there, but I have become accustomed over the last 2 weeks to eating according to the clock and not rely on hunger to remind me to check my watch.

Sunday - no Stim X. Nothing remarkable there.

Monday.

2 caps in the morning before the squat/bench/dead workout. Unbelievable workout. I had terrible problems with the dry mouth but was worth it for the quality of the lifts. This was the best workout I've had in my life.

Until the last set of deads. I'd been drinking a lot because of the dry mouth and when I stood up after my last set of deads I puked between the squat racks. Normally this isn't too big a deal for me, but in this case I think I hurled the remainder of my Stim X.

The next couple hours were still good in that I had the CNS balancing I experienced last time with this workout. The cooldown was a very long period and I sweated a lot for maybe 2 hours.

The rest of the day I didn't really notice much effect of the Stim X. I suspect this pattern worked out this way because I was able to get enough Stim X in my system pre-vomit to get me through the morning but not through the afternoon. I don't know the absorption rate of the caps or the half-life, but this is at least one anecdotal data point that says if you wretch within 90 minutes of taking the caps the effects will probably subside sooner than usual.

Will take 1 cap Wenesday and 2 Friday and report back. I'll also have some final thoughts on my 3 weeks with Stim X.

Monday's workout was great, and Wednesday thru Friday were pretty much on par with that one (sans the regurgitation).

Wednesday (April 5) I went back to 1 cap for the squat/OH/chin/hyper workout. 1 was definitely enough to keep me engaged and alert throughout the experience, and I was fine afterward, with the improtant and persistent exception of the tremendous lack of appetite. Guzzled the PWO shake and relaxed for a couple hours before an afternoon golf outing.

I don't play golf very often and don't have a good routine for planning my day around the activity. In this case, thanks to an 11:50 tee time and the appetite suppression of the Stim X I completely forgot to eat lunch. Worse, I didn't bring any water with me and the lousy beer girl didn't show up until the sixth or seventh hole, at which point my dry mouth was so bad that I bought her entire inventory of purple Gatorade. Guzzled that down over the next couple holes and finished the round. Then we went out to dinner.

I was really surprised that even after working out, playing golf, missing a meal and not having any solid food all day I really wasn't that hungry when we got to the restaurant. I think I could fast for a month with a bottle of this stuff. Thankfully, it wasn't too hard to put away a caprese, some creamed spinach, a potato, and a Kansas City strip, so hopefully even though the timing was wrong at least my cals in vs. cals out was still positive.

Again, no problems sleeping.

Spent most of Thursday recovering from the events of Wednesday. I have a nasty sunburn on my neck and a few core muscles are sore from the golf.

Friday (April 7) it was back to 2 caps for the squat/bench/dead workout. I had another incredible day at the gym. The energy level is so high that I'm through the set almost before I know it. And I'm really liking the CNS support for these lifts. Very nice all around.

Nothing else remarkable about Friday. Dry mouth, long cooldown, low appetite. Pretty standard stuff for me with this supplement at this point.

Having spent a little time with Stimulant X, I do have a few observations and plans for how I will use it going forward.

1) I will use 1 cap for most workouts and cardio.

2) 2 caps for heavy/intense workouts

3) I don't think I will ever take even 1 cap after 9:00 a.m. I don't think I would be able to use Stim X if I had to work out at night.

4) This stuff dries out my mouth like none other. Water bottle goes pretty much everywhere.

5) On days I use the supplement, I will always pay extra attention to meal planning, because hunger will be no help to me to remind me to eat. I could envision a situation where I could take a cap in the morning, forget to eat all day, then as the effects were wearing off in the evening, ravenously binge on junk as a day's worth of appetite returns all at once.

6) I will keep a small supply with me at work and on business trips. I think I could work 2-3 days non-stop with this. Not an advisable course of action, but it might help pay the bills.

It will be interesting to see in the future how Stim X interacts with other supplements and drugs. I probably won't stack it with any other stimulants or with thermogenics, but may stagger it with TRex for days with/without weight workouts. I will also be curious to see how any other substances work with Stim X. I could also see some recreational value to Stim X combining it with drugs that are CNS depressants (e.g. alcohol, cannabis, etc.) to get the psychoactive effects of the recreational drugs without being completely shut down by them. I don't use recreational drugs, so someone else will have to trod that path, but I can definitely see Stim X being useful there.

Overall I am very pleased with my experience and will probably be a light-to-medium user of Stimulant X for quite a while. I'll take a month off of it every now and then. Otherwise I'm glad AX made it and glad I can get it.
