3 days so far on a clean cutting diet

How much do you presently weigh? And how many total daily calories are you consuming? You could likely lower protein and bump fat.

Dieting down also takes some adjustment time....so don't give up just yet!!

By 'kicking ass', I assume he means the diet is going well so far and he's happy with it... Not the opposite. :p
 
Good luck with that... I know I personally can't stick to a strict diet regimen (counting calories, sticking to a macro split, etc) for more than a few months at a time... It takes commitment, that's for sure.
