3 Officers Fatally Shot At Home In Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Three police officers were shot to death at a Birmingham house Thursday, a spokesman for the mayor said.
Dozens of officers -- some wearing body armor and carrying shotguns and rifles -- swarmed around the house and went door-to-door in the neighborhood. It is believed the officers came under fire while they were delivering a warrant to Nathaniel L. Woods in a nearby house.
At about 3 p.m., a Birmingham tactical police squad stormed a house.
About 30 minutes later, three men were taken in handcuffs from a house at the crime scene. Birmingham police also reported that Woods, a primary suspect in the shooting, was one of the men in custody.
Police officials at the scene told WVTM-TV in Birmingham they believe that some or all of the officers were shot by SKS rifles -- a weapon powerful enough to penetrate the bulletproof vests that are a standard issue for Birmingham officers.
