There's this guy at my gym that is ripped to shreds and stays that way year round. He has a decent amout of muscle mass in his upper body. His legs could use some size though. His upper body looks like a competitive bodybuilder. I asked this guy if he has ever touched fast food in his life and he said "I eat it all the time". "I usually eat Wendy's hamburgers twice a day". Then I asked him if he had ever had his bodyfat measured. He said his doctor did it and he was 3.5%. The doc told him that his BF was too low and that he needed to get it up to a minimum of 5%. Is that incredible or what? He eats fast food as well as cookies and gets shredded. He's a freak of nature. He isn't very strong so I think it's all natural.

If that is just pure metabolism, I would love to have it! My metabolism is so slow, I have to work a million times harder than most people to lose any fat at all... I'm serious, I could eat like a hamburger and fries from McDonald's and fucking gain 5lbs...lol And I do cardio everyday for at least 45 minutes...

This guy is about 5'8" and can dunk a basketball, I guess he was blessed with athletic genes. He used to be a gymnast.

I laugh everytime someone stats their a certain body fat-----On the 7 site method 3.5 % is attainable but that method is not your true bodyfat------The organs in your body hold upperward of 2.5 -to 3.0 percent----Andreaus Munsner(sp) was at 3.9 to 4.0 and he was one of the most lean BB their was if not the leanest------5% is really shredded glutes---------I was watching some female BB show the other day T.V and the comentators were stating how the women get down to around 3 % bodyfat and most had fat on their ass---3% is silly and not correct!---Just my 2 cents

i know a guy just like that, as a matter of fact you might have seen him on days of our lives. his name is paul logan, hes an actor and a friend of mine. his diet consists of "doritos and coke" as he puts it. lucky mother fucker

I don't know how the body fat test was administered, but you know you are shredded when the doctor tells you that you need more fat for health reasons.

I hate that guy. well maybe not hate just very jealous I have to work like a bitch to get lean but I can gain 20pounds of fat in about 48hrs :)

Are his eyes bugging out of his head? He might have hyperthyroidism.

Yeah the guys lucky, but most guys that I've seen like that have a rough time getting real sizable, still, I envy him

At 3.5% BF this guy would barely be able to function.I HIGHLY doubt he's that low all yr. round

I hate to say it but you're dead wrong!!! My bodyfat stays between 4.0 - 5.0 year round and at times is as low as 3.0, so I'm sure this guy functions just fine. I've trained with a couple other Track and Field guys that are also in the 3's and 4's year round!!!

two cents

Unless you are getting ripped up for a show, and most of us don't compete anyway, there is no reason to want to be under 5% BF. If you are under 5 then you are either a genetic freak with a superhuman metabolism (which means you won't put on mass) or you don't eat enough to put on mass. I would say that 10-12% is a good all season BF%.

3.5% bodyfat!!!!
theres only 2 states that could cause u to attain that level year round : death and talking absolute bollox. as he's dunking bastketballs and eating Wendy's i take it its the latter.

At 3.5% for a year you would be dead. You wouldn't even live that long. You need more than that for proper brain function. His doctor measured him wrong and is an idiot for not admitting him to hospital there and then. 3.5 is beyond annorexic. When bodyfat is taken with callipers it is inaccurate. Remember you are measuring how much fat is in the skin, not the entire body. There is fat in your internal organs, even the brain so the only way to get a more accurate result is through bodystat over a period of time or weighing underwater.

Maybe he is chucking up those burgers.

Guys can be bulimic too.

Caliper tests can be dodgy and vary between individual measurers.

3.5% IMO that sounds ridicoulous, I thought that the record for the least amount of body fat was held by this boxer forgot his name and it was like in the 4% range....

I could be wrong but 3.5%? Is he ethiopian?, ( Not trying to offend anyone )

I think you guys are missing an important detail. His Doctor told him to gain weight because he is in an UNHEALTHY condition even though he looks great. You have to have really low bodyfat for a doctor to say you're not healthy. The funny part is that he is eating fattening foods to try to become "healthy" again but he still has trouble. He must have a thyroid disorder. This guy is every bit a ripped or maybe more ripped as a pro bodybulder on contest day.

Below 4.5 % BF your brain lacks the essential fatty acids it needs to function. This is very dangerous and should be avoided at all cost.

I understand you guys think this is extremely too low, but I think the highest I've ever been measured at was about 6.0% and that was when I weighed 185 - 190 lbs. I'm usually around 170 - 175 lbs and 4.5%. I train year 'round for Track and Field at about 170lbs and 4.0% bodyfat, and compete at about 3.0% - 3.5%. AND THOSE ARE NOT UNUSUAL NUMBERS IN MY SPORT!
Not trying to flame anyone or brag for that matter - just informing.

Mr. Kypo---Really those are not usual numbers-----I watched almost all the olympic games in the past 20 years and their is not one OLYMPIC track and field athlete that is 3.5% let alone any olympic althlete, and this includes the BB in the olympics------You must be an exception to what is reality!-----I bet you believed Ronnie Coleman when he told Jay Leno that he was .003 % body fat and didnt do steriods------Andreaus Munzer was 4% bodyfat-----Your telling me yours is lower then his was?
