imo at the very best, all of bmw's new advances such as an electric water pump can be considered good ideas in the short term. imo this new technology is going to be a nightmare for owners in the long term. once a car like this is out of warranty it could potentially have insane maintainence. i see an electric water pump as something that is over-engineered. i dont even wanna get started on the headaches the tt setup is gonna pose in about 5 years. same thing goes for mb's new braking system.

Mine is a 98' I spend about $1000 a year in routine maintenance and misc items which includes wheel alinment and rotation every 6-8k miles.
I happen to have a fantastic mechanic and I treat my car as well as I treat my body - sometimes better and even at 8 years old with 140k miles on it people stop me weekly and ask if I want to sell her.
You can buy a POS from any car manufacturer - sounds like you were just unlucky - much like I was with my pontiac that cost me thousands to repair at the first 3 years I owned it.
My dad has the A8 and also the BMW 740i. I have been in love with the 740i since he got it way back in 1999. Driving that car is som comfortable you might as well be cocked back in your Lazy Boy at home. Not to mention the power. It's just all around fantastic. The A8 I havent driven much. I can say that his Z4 fucking suck to drive. Hate that god damn car.jnevin said:

its an all wheel drive model so its more expensive, but also has 255 HP
if you don't need all that juice, this is the same body, but cheaper.

I think the service with BMW makes the higher price worth it. My friend paid extra for a full service everything everything warranty on his M3. The only thing he has to replace are the tires. He drives the shit out of it, but he has had the cats replaced twice ($6K each time), the timing chain slipped and the car needed $17K worth of repairs, and some other thing went and would have been close to $5K. All covered for free, and he had a loaner the whole time the car was in.
