20 Resumes.....

Hell...headhunters are the only ones advertising the positions...you rarely see the company running the postings/adds.

Hmm guess it depends on what position you're looking for. But heck, if you have some companies in mind, always check their website for their employment/career section & see if they're hiring! :) Very proactive! :qt:

I must've missed something...why are you job hunting?
Unhappy at current company....slow...bored...and need something new. I have to break out of this industry.

What did you do when you were looking?

Signed up for every reputable job site I could find (HotJobs, Monster, Dice)

Called every contact I had (Recruiters, contractors, former coworkers)

Read job listings every day, and sent a resume if I was even remotely interested

In some cases, I also made follow up phone calls to find out if positions were still open. In the end, I really just got lucky, and happened to be in the right place at the right time. With the market being what it is right now, if you can get someone to give you a referral, that seems to be the best option.

Yeah...that is what I am trying to do right now...seems like referrals are the only way to go.

I want out of this career into something else. Maybe a Techinal Sales Engineer.......this shit is so depressing it isn't even funny......I keep looking back to what I should have done in college and there after........

If it makes you feel any better, I'm much more of a deadbeat than you are. Here I am, on a Thursday afternoon, 23 years old, posting on an internet discussion board wearing nothing but my underwear and waiting for my mom's anxiety pills (whatever the fuck they were) to kick in. Shoot me. Seriously. At least you have motivation. I can't find mine anymore. You'll figure it out though man, I wouldn't worry.

Good Luck Beastboy!!

Job Hunting is not a fun game that is for sure...but either is going into a job that you don't enjoy!!

You will find something, with out a doubt...you are smart, talented and good looking to boot..You won't be passed by very long!! :)

Are you looking everywhere...or are you planning on staying close to where you are now?

Thank you.....actually I have to stay around here....I own a business and there is no way I can uproot my family....unless....j/k. Does your company have a office near me?

I actually came home today and found a letter from one company I applied to. They sent me a application and some type of survey to fill out and mail back out to them. I'm not to sure the industry will be that exciting, but I am going to see what it is all about.

Nature Boy....I hate you...you are nothing but mean to me.

You guys should stop comparing yourself to ideals of what the perfect life is like. Besides, you're 23. You will live another 60 years and theres no telling what'll happen.

Best of luck beast.

The last 2 jobs i got were both through direct approaches to the companies. I have absolutely no time or repsect for recruitment companies.

I made a list of companies that i wanted to work for and started calling the MD's and divisional managers direct. Even the one's that didn't have any positions available were happy to have a quick chat and give me some advice and even give me names of other companies and MD's to call.

Those are good ideas.....but I get nervous it will put them off.

Wodin....do you do it because you love me, as well?

Keep your head up man. Most companies won't call back immediately. In the meantime, follow Project's advice and get your name out as much as you can.

And keep sending resumes out homes.

I love you in that non-gay, manly way. It's not the same as the love you and The Nature Boy share.

Have you attended any job fairs or expos? Also, what type of job do you currently have that you hate?

Good luck.
No..haven't been to any job fairs....5 years ago there use to be job fairs every few weeks. Now I rarely hear of any.

I'm an Engineer. I do Machine Design, Project Management (cradle to grave), etc. I really don't dislike the career as much as the company I work for. It is getting bad here...finger pointing...everyone is more concerned with wha others are not doing rather than focusing on their own job. I'd love to migrate into a sales position, as well as concentrate on some of my side gigs.

Sent out in the last week....Zero calls thus far....this f-ing blows.

Monster.com; I emailed 5-10 a day.

It will happen......I have two offers right now from other companies...and my current company wants to counter-offer.

One is for a job I applied for about 2 months ago and heard nothing from until recently.

Have faith

Good luck with it. I'm doing the same bullshit you are. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. At least, one set of them. The others are crossed for me. :)

Bighead,

How about using your vast network of friends to get you a job. It's all about who you know.
Come on....everyone know I don't have any friends.

Actually I am working on one company through a friend referral....going to call their HR to follow-up.

I'm keeping the faith.

Good luck phatchick.
