2 sports? no time!

I dunno is anyone here can relate to this.... as well as starting lifting recently, I've been doing taekwondo for 3 years. But I've decided to gve up the tkd. Coz at this point, to make further progress, I'd need to go to 4 sessions a week, as or even 3 isn't helping me improve. Do I want to spend 90 minutes 4 times a week doing nothing but martiala arts? I had to say, NO. I'm not actually very good at tkd, although it's fun, and it was affecting my self-esteem. Not to mention my lifts :).

So since I really want to have a life outside sports, I'm going with lifting/BB only. I quite fancy eventually having a go at powerlifting, although that will be a year or two down the line.... I've found myself so looking forward to gym sessions and so not looking forward to tkd....

I like competitive sparring tho, I'm giong to wait 6 months and then try boxe francaise or some other type of kickboxing....

Anyone else on here ever given up a sport they never thought they would stop doing?

No. I still practice damn near everything. In college I played two sports in seasons and two others off season. Not counting martial arts training.

You really can not find an extra six hours a week to practice TKD?

Well, I used to play golf but I quit that. Mostly for money reasons. I'm just getting into weight training and I want this BAD so I am devoting all my energy and money to that. If I still played golf I would be buying fees and lessons whereas I can use that $ for supplements and gym membership (and expensive grocery bill.) I'm not rich- I'm a college student. Also to be good at golf ,I would have to practice everyday- too much time and money.
I decided I didnt want to spread myself too thin. I chose what is most important to me.

She was talking about sports, not golf.

Old fat guys in call it a sport simply because they are in denial of the fact that they are old and fat.

I may take it up if I suddenly lose my testicles.

It's not just the 6 hours, it's the 30 mintues it takes me to walk there (i've changed schools so I no longer have to take the train and cycle), the 30 minutes to walk back every day, and the fact that it leaves me so tired in the evenings. Effectively I would be giving up all my evenings Mon-Thurs, plus individual practice time... plus a lot of energy.

Think of it as cardio. And this will give you the excuse to eat more, which is always a good thing.

You are in Europe, yes? If so, you can load up on pastries.

argh don't mention pastries there is a GREAT Sicilian pastry house 100 yards from my appartment..... lucky I've had my porridge already this morning, so I can avoid the tractor beam at the shop's entrance...

Teaching aerobics.

Gave it up slowly over time, mostly gave it up this past Jan after close to 4 years. I mostly got sick of the crap. The gym I work for is like a cult - & the gym management as well as members treat you like dirt. Not worth it. This is not the same gym that I train at.

 Eagerly awaiting some witty retort from Arioch..... :o

When did you start training in a gym?

Sorry, best I can do. I could do better if I had any measureable quantity of sleep in the last three weeks.

And is Hannibal giving up his IFBB dream for the PGA?

That boy needs to learn to focus.

<<shrug>> It's quicker to type "gym" than "retirement home/spa". 'Morgue,' however, is a bit excessive. They (folks at my gym) are the masses - the average, those whom you rule over. That does not make them dead. ;)
