2 plates skull crushers.

I have a goal to do 2-45 pound plates on each side for skull crushers. Ez bar of course. Any one ever achieve this, or know anybody who has?

you are talking about over 200lbs there

Where are you now w/ skull crushers? My best is 70 lb EZ bar. I would think 200 would introduce problems just w/ leverage, i.e. not flipping your whole body over w/ all the weight at the top. I have no idea what is realistic for a record rep tho.

I understand the idea of wanting to see what you can lift, but I think I would find something besides skull crushers to try it on.

I agree with big, get a big max on close grip or something.

I beleive after doing these so many years the contributed to some of my elbow problems. Think the most I ever got on these may have been a 45 and a 25 on each side, sure it wasn't pretty...

I can't, lol....Whenever the topic comes up with crazy numbers on isolation movements in the strength training community, the general feeling is that there are guys who probably could do it but it is pointless as it is too much of a strain on the joints and has zero functional carryover to anything.

I agree, if triceps strength is your thing, go for a big close-grip press or ridiculous amounts of 45's added to your weighted dips.

that's where it's at

lifts where your joints won't be the limiting factors

i've found that doing heavy db extensions has helped out my bench. but, close grip is the king of tricep exercises

45 and two 10's on each side is my all time max, but that was with very good form too......two 45's sounds doable to me

Save yourself the injury and lack of muscle growth and stick with increasing your bench and close grip up. Skullcrushers aren't exactly a big bragging exercise anyways.

I knew I would hear a few not advising heavy isolation exercises, I understand there is great risks and am willing to take a chance. But this is one area that increases almost as fast for me as heavy core lifts. My lifts increase with standard sets of ten. I really wouldn't like the feeling of loading the bar down with weights for 6 or less reps.

Currently I am at 45's and 25's right now for ten, I tried 45's 25's and 5's and got ten on my last set last arm day. There isn't that much room on the bar for more weight. I would like to see how far I can take this weight. With good form of course. Sassy that is an impressive weight, I have read a few of your threads and you are one strong Chica. There are some guys that have respectable sized triceps that cant do much more than that.

I stopped doing skulls a couple months back and really focussed on dips and close grip. I switch between skulls, dips and close grip as power movements month to month. I added skulls back into my routine and picked up almost where I left off. Have added about 10 lbs. since then. I plan on sticking with skulls for a while and see how high I can get them. My elbows do get a little sore feeling in them if I do not do a few warmup sets. So I take them serious.

Thanks to all who replied, I always enjoy hearing others opinions.

are you doing this because your arms suck or because you want bragging rights at your gym...lol

lol no. :qt: I could care less about what others think. My arms are fine at 19". I am a very humble person, and most gyms I walk into I am by far the strongest person there. I don't want to sound cocky but I have been lifting ten years and have acquired great strength. I have absolutely nothing to prove to anyone. My lifts usually speak for themselves. I have never really set a specific strength goal since highschool. It will keep me motivated throughout the summer.

What the hell. go for it. Just watch your joints. And video it I guess b/c it seems like not a lot of guys are doing that weight. LoL

Lol, I could see it being taken that way. It was not my intention to brag. I hesitated posting this because I didn't want it to sound like I am looking for attention. I was curious at to others experiencing big weight with this lift. There are few around my location that are serious about training. So I came here to talk to people that live the bodybuilding lifestyle.
Thanks to all who replied.

I guess of all the stuff to work your tris w/ I woudln't pick skull crushers as my favorite. I have squirrely elbows that like to pinch at inopportune moments and my left wrist likes to get a pinch on particular grips -- this exercise tends to hit both those problems randomly. I think its a whole shitload of stress on unsupported joints. I've hit the point where my muscle strength exceeds my joint strength and I took a week off from the gym to let my rotator cuffs recover from it all. Its the joints that I would worry about here.

Anyway - I see that you are just looking to "see" what is your upper limit - those little goals are sort of fun to keep you going and add soem thrill to the daily training routine. I'm not a powerlifter by any stretch and I know many girls who do the equivalent of my best lifts as warm up, but for ex, in my little gym, where I'm one of the most hardcore (and that ain't sayign much for the gym....) I do get an amazingly cheap thrill out of loading up the leg press w/ my 7 plates and watchin the younger guys' eyes pop out. Its hilariouis -- there's this one pair of young guys -around 22 I guess -- they are in there pushign each other -- one guy has already asked if he can train legs w/ me and the other gives me this dirty look like I "took" his training partner. The one guy accepts that my "dick" is bigger than his and the other won't admit it.

LMAO! (That's my "honorary dick" for heavy lifting, not a literal dick for those who got worried for a second... )

But anyway -- esp for those lifts that are just very exposed angles, be sooo careful -- once you screw up your joints, you are forever fukt. I developed tendonitis in my right elbow around 1992 trying to blow thru a plateau at a 25 lb cable extension and I'm still paying for it after nearly 6 months of physical therapy after it happened and years of massage and specific attention to having to work around them when they get aggravated.

i guess i haven't done a true skull crusher in prolly 8 years, but i've gone over 225 on chin chrushers and jm presses for a couple years (using a straight bar, not ez curl). i would say it would be easily doable to do what you want, but there are so many better exercises for triceps strength then skull crushers imo. lying tricep dumbell ext off the floor, dicks presses, elbows out db ext on an incline bench, close grip bench on a 5 or 6 boards using bands for added tension, etc

Thanks Sassy, that is something I will have in the back of my mind whenever doing skulls.

I do believe we've just been insulted. LoL :artist:

LOL, How can that be insulting? I came here to talk to people that train hard and eat tons of protein. Since you are in a weightlifting forum I assume that you lift weights. I did not mean to insult anyone.

I'm just kidding, bro. When you say "bodybuilding lifestyle," I think of guys shaving each others bodies, "pumping up" w/ cables and chrome, rubbing each other w/ fake tan and baby oil, and prancing around in speedos. If I'm working out w/ other guys, my clothes stay on. And we don't lift up our shirts to show each other our ripped abzz! LoL Frankly, most of the guys on here don't even bathe regularly. LoL

Ok, good. LOL That isn't what comes to mind when I think of bodybuilding, but I have never been backstage at a show. EEEK
