1 week down without the smokes...

Today's one week without the smokes. I was a smoker for about 7 years and hadn't made it a day without a smoke in over a year and a half. Yesterday was the first day I actually made it nicotine free. To those that smoke, take my word for it... the nicorette gum does get you past the hard times. My first day I pulled into 7/11 around 4:00. I couldn't take it anymore. I had already bought the gum, but I was hesitant, I knew what I needed, and I knew the way to get it was from a cigarette. I calmed myself for a minute, turned around and drove home and popped a piece of gum. Within 30 seconds, I could feel the nicotine... and my urge to smoke subsided.

I was a pack of day smoker, here's how I used the gum.
1st day - 4 pieces of gum
2nd day - 3 pieces of gum
3rd day - 3 pieces of gum
4th day - 2 pieces of gum
5th day - 1 piece of gum
6th day - None!!!

I only used the gum when I felt I needed it, not just because I wanted it. For the past week I can tell you, I've been one grumpy, moody SOB. The worst is by far over with, and this is a habit I will never turn to again. I can already tell a huge difference in my breathing... that's no bullshit.

To all of you that have a desire to quit... I'd really recommend the gum, or some other nicotine method. (Such as the patch, except with the patch you don't choose the nicotine you'll have in a day, and that's why I chose the gum... it's easier to control how much nic you'll have in a day, therefore, you can ween yourself from the nicotine slowly.)

Hopefully it will continue to go well... and good luck to any of you that are facing, or need to face quitting this powerful addiction that with time, only promises a self inflicted, painful death.

It feels very nice not doing that to myself anymore... and I wish I hadn't for so long.

NICE!!!! It was really hard to quit smoking, at least casually for me. Alot of my friends in college smoked, so cigs were always around. Its just too easy to have a few drinks, rails or tokes and then have a smoke. I haven't smoked in over 2 years and am very happy about it. I don't even want them at all, and actually find the smell disgusting now.

As an added bonus, your skin will clear up, food will taste better, you'll have greatly improved muscular and cardiovascular endurance.

Smoking is the most retarded thing you can do. Stay clean!

Best decision you'll ever make....

Wahooooooooooooooooooooo!

Stay strong. You can do it.

and if gum doesn't do the trick, get ZYBAN, I smoked for 20 years and at the end was almost 2 packs a day.
I've been quit 1 year and its night and day how I feel now. I can BREATHE.

Was always nuts to be a bodybuilder and also smoker. I can get many more reps squatting that I didn't know I was missing out on before.

Cigarettes should be banned from the planet, they are nasty. If you smoke you are a nasty person. I used to be a nasty person.
Face it, if you smoke, you smell hideous, your teeth are ugly and you REEK!!!!

Good work, man. Keep it up.

I smoked a pack a day, but I was never addicted...I just liked the taste/buzz. Yeah, I'm wierd. :) I qiut cold turkey, although I still enjoy the occasional puff.

My buddy just quit last month. He was smoking 1.5 packs/day, and he's only 24. One of his aunts, who smoked for years, got getting cancer and had a stroke...that was the thing that finally smartened him up.
