Boxing + Muay Thai. Will give you a great standup. I'd say take Muay Thai classes and go spar at the boxing gem, find someone there who will teach you a bit and spar with you.

I've never trained in it yet but I've been to a school once and watched, and grappled a little with someone who taught me a little bit. I personly like throws because I think it would be very usefull for self defence/ street fight. I'd go for it if I where you.

Well I'd check the law, dont think I'd get into trouble defending myself with a knife if someone attacked me. If theres any possible way I get sued or arrested I'd leave his ass on the street and simply walk away, there isnt gonna be any charges put on me if noone knows who I am.
