    Modern Drummer's HALL of FAME!

If you want slower drumming, check out Opeth's "Demon of the Fall". If you don't mind the fast shit with lots of great fills, check out Vader's "Wings".

    Modern Drummer's HALL of FAME!

I like improv and creativity within the bounds of speed. It must be a byproduct of this hyperspeed world we live in. Portnoy is good, though.

    Modern Drummer's HALL of FAME!

That's true, but there's also the issue of death metal being so aggressive, in general. Even if there were somewhat clean vocals over the hyperspeed drumming and riffage, a lot of people don't want their music that pissed-off. Testament(quasi-clean vox, fast music, fair example) isn't exactly...

    Modern Drummer's HALL of FAME!

Dave Suzuki absolutely destroys the kit on the new Vital Remains. Doc from Vader is good, as are the previously mentioned Herrara and Lombardo. Just listen to Lombardo's work on Testament's "The Gathering". Killer! Sermon, what band are you in? A site I review for covers some Unique Leader...

    Metallica's St. Anger Review

To each their own. Besides, I'd much rather see people listening to old 'Tallica and Sabbath than whatever crap is being pushed by the industry nowadays.

    Metallica's St. Anger Review

You really don't listen to much metal, do you? They're both important and innovative bands, but the epitome of musicianship? Please. Much of Sabbath's stuff is beyond simplistic. And with the exception of seeing them play the old shit live, I haven't seen Metallica get intense since 1991...

    Board Presses?

if you're gonna do boards, keep the reps in the 1-4 range. I'd recommend just doing heavy weight on them anyway, since they're just for overloading the top. For instance, monday I did: (405 raw max) Raw: 135 225 275x5 315x3 365x3 385x1 1 board: 405x1 415x1 barely missed 2 board: 405x3...

Is your squat ideally should be equal to your deadlift?

The gear is a big factor with squats vs. deads. Right now, my best raw squat is about 500 and my best raw DL is 535. With gear, squat 550 range, dead 535. haha. I also notice that my squat suffers a lot when I lose weight, and thus, midsection size. I think that the body has a natural peak...

    Board Presses?

Switching boards is fine, but I don't see the point of 5 and 6-board presses. For me, I'm locked out around 6-7 boards. I work in a 2-4 board range with them and do a lot of volume. The volume is what'll get you the pump you need. Check out the Metal Militia's site (www.metalmilitia.net)...

    Shadows Fall

Shadows Fall kick serious ass. Yet another great metal band from Massachusetts. Good call man. After you check out those two bands, listen to Unearth.

    Advice on wrist/forearm pain

I use a regular grip, thumbs around the bar. Same as I've always done. Grip width is anywhere from pinky to middle finger on the rings. It mostly acts up above 315 (405 max), and I use wrist wraps on anything above 315, and those seem to help a bit. I think it's just a repetitive stress...

    Advice on wrist/forearm pain

Has anyone had a problem like this? Lately, whenever I do bench/tris/any press, when I get to heavy weights, my wrists and forearms start hurting. It's like the bar doesn't sit properly in my hands anymore, no matter how I hold it. It seems like my wrists are just feeling weaker and more...

    Dead Lifting Question?

There's not much you can do but suck it up. Baby powder all over the shins is what we do in competitions, and it helps a bit, but don't get any on the gripping side of your hands.

    Soulfly

Soulfly has their moments. The Prophet and Eye for an Eye are good tracks, but I'll take old Sepultura anyday. (Chaos AD, Beneath the Remains, Schizophrenia...) I last saw Soulfly with Slayer and In Flames, and they were the weak link.
